newyorkwrestler 258 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 its clear officials were corrupt, UWW and IOC need to investigate, Interpol should as well. medals need to stripped, or at least given out to wrestlers who were blatantly cheated (yazdani, gomez, ganzorig, higuchi, arutyunyan, etc) Officials also need to be banned and fined. perhaps certain countries need to be banned as well. Until the world community actually comes together on this it will continue. At this time there are no consequences for such things. So a judge or ref is removed, so what? No medals are even restored or changed, no jail time, etc. The bribes continue, the doping continues and it is typically always the same countries doing it. This past Olympics were a perfect chance to end it and the IOC relented as usual. 1 Billyhoyle reacted to this
RetiredPoster 87 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 The bribes are coming from upper management(RUS and UZE) of UWW. That's the problem. The Wolves guarding the Hen House.

scribe 1,824 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) The bribes are coming from upper management(RUS and UZE) of UWW. That's the problem. The Wolves guarding the Hen House. pretty much. In certain parts of the world the standard of living is impoverished. Those with money don't pay taxes. So jobs as officials don't really pay anything. If people want access to services, they pay those officials for that access. Corruption. It's a way of life. Edited August 23, 2016 by scribe

RetiredPoster 87 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 Could you imagine if Interpol was involved? I think it's a great idea..
cm_111 77 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 Could you imagine if Interpol was involved? I think it's a great idea I have a feeling this issue is highly concentrated to organized crime and also political higher ups within these countries attempting to either make money through betting or to make the country look good to the world via Olympic success. In either case Interpol would likely very much enjoy getting their hands on such people and exposing them. Some of these judging "errors" were so blatantly atrocious. The boxing corruption was just wow....
Jaroslav Hasek 2,047 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 the only chance wrestling had to wipe the slate clean and start fresh was if wrestling did get kicked out of the Olympics. wrestling made improvements in the FILA to UWW transition but there was never a total lustration process. now the best chance to completely root out corruption is outside pressure from a competing wrestling organization. that is why I think it is so important for the existence of an independent Freestyle wrestling circuit, however challenging a prospect that may be. It's how tennis and golf evolved from amateur competitions controlled by the tournaments and venues, to professional sports operated for the benefit of the athletes and fans. 1 Ching reacted to this
RetiredPoster 87 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 It's going to be very difficult to rid UWW's two, bad seeds...
GoNotQuietly 1,168 Report post Posted August 23, 2016 To be fair, are there sports, or even any field of human activity, which corruption isn't pretty rampant in? Soccer, Politics, Science, Banking, Education, Religion, Boxing, Sumo, etc. We're just not used to being able to blatantly see it, imo. Human Standard Operating Procedure whenever there is incentive for it. 1 Jaroslav Hasek reacted to this
