maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 the last 2 rewarded to Chakaev is a part of freestyle I think is stupid. He just lifts his leg and gets two. It's not even good counter defense just a bailout flop  Logan looked like the better wrestler.  The inside trip by Chakaev was the only nice move by him when my feed came up  Chakaev looked much taller and that might of bothered logan some  It only looks like a cheap flip if your brain is locked into folkstyle.  If your only objective is exposure and your brain is locked that way, it was an unreal series of counter attempts that led to 2.  Your analysis is exactly why we lag behind in freestyle when we've got the best potential wrestlers in the world.  We don't even realize how blind we are with our folkstyle brains that can't recalibrate to the freestyle mindset. 1 Yellow_Medal reacted to this

maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Hildebrandt drops a heartbreaker to Hungary to fall out of medal contention. Â Gonzalez up next on Mat A in the greco R16. Â I don't understand at all why they didn't utilize the 3 mats equally instead of putting greco, with it's slower matches, all on one mat while the 2 freestyle brackets have to race through with limited rest. Â Again, it just feels like the UWW can't get out of it's own way sometimes.

maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 He wins 8-8, with the literally last second takedown. Â replay shows he clearly settles into control at 5:59. Â Unbelievable!

maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Wow, the Georgian Lomtadze with a huge 12-11 come-from-behind win over Gvarzatilov of Azerbaijan in the other semi. Â It will not be a low-scoring final between Stieber and him. Â His shot defense and counter exposures are very, very strong. Â

bigtenfan 119 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Finals are at noon US ET here: https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/world-championships-non-olympic-weight-categories Awesome. Thank you! Do we know what mat it will be on?
maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Lomtadze has been around, but this is clearly his best result. Â He took silver at the watered down Euro's last year, but did get a win over Shuptar before falling to Bogomoev. Â He lost to Batbold and Bajrang last year at worlds and to Bogomoev the year before in finishing 7th and 11th. Â Bajrang got hammered in the quarters by Gvarzatilov, so you'd have to look at Lomtadze's win as a significant upset.
maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Awesome. Thank you! Do we know what mat it will be on? All finals are on B...I would assume they'll go women's bronze, bronze, gold, then men's freestyle bronze, bronze, gold before finishing with the host country Hungary's preferred style of Greco. Â That would mean Logan would be up 6th at probably a little after 1pm US ET/ 19:00 CET
maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Gonzalez fell 2-2 to the Romanian in the R16 by the way. Â He looked quite good for his first foray into international competition. Â I don't expect the Romanian to make the final and bring him back into medal contention.
maligned 528 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Interestingly, Stieber's medal today is just our 3rd world/olympic medal in the bottom 3 weight classes (55/57, 60/61, 65/66) in the past TEN years. Â That's right, we're 3 for 30 at those weights the last 10 tournaments. Â Cejudo famously wins gold in 2008, Coleman Scott picks up a bronze in 2012, and then we're 0 for 11 until today. Â We're strong in the mid to upper weights because our athleticism works to our advantage with our folkstyle lower-half attacks. Â But in the lower weights where everyone is just as athletic and proficient at leg attacks AND knows how to score above the waist and off of counter exposures, we're generally toast. 1 Coach_J reacted to this
Coach_J 2,177 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 Khuzin is not joking about his support of Stieber. Â He's on record before the WC as a big fan. Housebuye 2,417 Report post Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) So theoretically we could have Logan, Green, Burroughs, Cox, and Snyder all at worlds next year. If everyone is at their best, that is a hell of a team. Also will have room for two up and comers. Maybe Gwiz? Not sure who at 57. Maybe Ramos or Nashon. Also Molinaro, if he can get back to Olympic form. Edited December 10, 2016 by Housebuye 1 Coach_J reacted to this
