Yes but you thought Valiev was going to beat him before 2017 worlds. And then said Cox Valiev would be the final. That was not even close to true. I took your word for it back then, told my wrestling pals in Iran and then when Yazdani won worlds I was laughed at for saying Valiev and Cox would beat him. After that I no longer can take your predictions seriously.

My reputation still has not recovered from that and your past predictions are to blame.

Sorry but Taylor got destroyed by Lashgari and barely beat this impoverished Cuban 4-4. Even Yasar only 4-1 when Yazdani teched Yasar a few months back. Not to mention a disabled Cox on 1 leg beat him. This is why he should stay at 86 and relax there winning easy golds.

did you see what Taylor did after the Cuban?

I do hear you but Taylor's style perfect for Yazdani. We will see I guess hopefully very soon. Taylor struggles with defensive bulls-very strong guys. Yazdani is not that guy and I think Taylor is simply a bad matchup for him.

Valiev Vs Cox was not a bad prediction. I was just wrong and Yazdani dominated. My reputation is still intact here:-). Stop taking this so seriously.  I could be wrong here with Taylor vs Yazdani also. I just think it is a bad matchup for Yazdani. Taylor struggles with guys like Cox, Lashgari, the Cuban....guys who are built like bulls are tough matchups for Taylor. I can't wait for the Taylor vs Yazdani rematch!

Let's be real about what happened in the Yazdani versus Taylor match.  Yazdani completely dominated, and then ran out of gas.

A completely out of gas Yazdani is not a match for Taylor

If they ever meet again, Yazdani simply has to control the pace better, finish the job before he runs out of gas, or just improve his endurance

Iran will host the Greco World Cup this year and UWW forced them to postpone the competition for 6-7 months because of the European Champs

that made the Iranians angry, they offered UWW one solution, having the Greco World Cup almost at the same weekend as the freestyle world Cup. otherwise Iran will not participate in Iowa freestyle World Cup. and they claim this is not an empty threat

Hopefully they send them to a real tournament instead because the winning world cup every time was getting embarassing.

well I don't think they will send the top guys to any other tournament, some of them will go to the Asian Champs . they want Yazdani and the rest get familiar with new format, weight-in etc. and we will have Asian Games this year which has the same importance as the World Championship. if you count the trials, 3-4 serious tournaments is enough for a year

btw Yazdani won't move up to 92kg. this is just temporary for the Asian Championship. and even that is not a sure thing.

The Taylor vs. Lashgari match is not a good reference for comparison.  Taylor had just moved up to 86 KG for the first time and was a pale comparison to what he is now. Not big enough; no gas tank at the time.  Taylor beat Cox in the first match and then Cox slid his way around on sweat the last match (aka stalled forever).  That match was an embarrassment and the ref let it happen.   Easy golds?  No such thing.  The fact remains that Yazdani was pummeled and pinned (!) by Taylor in a match that mattered on Iranian turf no less.  Might not happen that way next time (if it does even occur) but you can't deny the beat down.

Sorry but I don't appreciate the way you are putting down Cox. The superior wrestler won that series and showed a lot of courage wrestling and winning on one leg.

He was big enough here. He's not going to be as muscular as Lashgari since Lashgari is short. I look at Taylor in that match and see a good sized 86. Bigger than Yazdani was when he won worlds recently. Gas tank? The match did not even go 3 minutes.

strong rumors in Iran, UWW will ban Iran wrestling for a long period because of that Karimi match. A YEAR !

Karimi and his coach will get even more, which will probably end his career.

we will have the official news about that soon from UWW.

Wow.  Please keep us updated.

Turned out to be a fake news, UWW banned Karimi for 6 months and his coach for 2 years.

Iran wrestling officials were talking about a suspension but I somehow think that wasn't serious from the start, they used this to show the government that this Israel thing is serious now, hoping they will change the policy.

The federation site says Taheri is going at 125. Also it's clear the state of 57kg in Iran is extremely poor with wrestlers like Hajaghania.

fixed

not sure if I made a mistake ( I doubt) or they just changed the list

yeah Rahimi is moving up weight (at least for now. 2 years away from the Olympics) and Atri also apparently can't make 57kg anymore, Hajaghania is the only option they have ! who is even worse than Atri !

Somebody needs to come through from cadets or juniors at 57 before 2020. Hajaghania is really bad. Honestly he makes Atri look good. Atri's career is also probably over if he can't make 57 as his only hope was making the team at a weak weight where his competition was Hajaghania. At 61 he would have to deal with Sadeghi.

Has a ban like this ever happened before?  I don't seem to recall one, so this is very interesting that UWW is cracking own on Iran....Will the next ban only be 6 months?

They are saying next time this happens they will ban Iranian wrestlers completely.

...Well at some point they will be faced with the prospect of facing an Israeli athlete....Will they still be fanned if they forfeit prior to the match?  Or is it just if they throw a match as it is happening?  It's only a matter of time before it happens given the random draw.

UWW doesn't care at all from what I can tell. It depends on if the IOC gets involved like they did this time. The IOC put pressure on UWW to punish Iran, otherwise UWW would not have done anything. This only got widespread attention because his coach was screaming at him from matside to throw the match. Usually they are more subtle and only a small number of people who are interested in wrestling hear about it. We will see what happens next time this happens.
