He will keep developing. Yes his dad being Masoumi will help him to stick to it and progress though the age groups unlike some others. I was so pissed when I found out our 80kg guy from 2018 cadets stopped wrestling, he had such a cool style lol.

Since we are a bit light on the lighter weights do you think Khorramdel can plug a gap there?

Over the past 3 years we have won at least 1 gold at every cadet weight except for 55, 60 and 65. We have a silver and bronze at 60 (Elahi and Fazli), a silver at 55 ( Veisi) and two bronzes at 65 (Rezaei in this tournament and Karimi), so hopefully starting to build a more balanced team. Khorramdel was pretty clearly the best wrestler in his weight so we'll see, Gholizadegan didn't medal at this same weight in the last cadet worlds and now he just needs to win a medal at junior worlds next month and he's on the senior team at 57.

I think this summarizes the outcome

Iran took 4th place, and that is a disappointment compared to previous years.  Iran also placed below India, which is also a new disappointment.

However, Iran got more gold medals than any other countries, and was undefeated in the finals.

So all and all, not a great tournament, but not a terrible one either.

Props to India winning the team role despite being third in the medal points haul. That shows they took a very well rounded team to the event.  Congrats to them.  Good to see Iran with 3 golds and a bronze has some studs coming through the ranks to give their senior team a boost.

not a good start to GR so far, a few guys already lost, one to Russia, one to Moldova!

110kg Paidar seems promising, he's in the QF v UKR after defeating a Kazakh giant 2*-2

80kg lost to Moldova in the first round ! Moldovan lost his next match so he's out

65kg Miri had a close win vs KGZ in the qual round 5*-5 and wrestles a Turk

55kg Daliri faces a Russian in the first round

48kg Naseripour lost to a Russian in the first round, can still be pulled into the repechage

at 48kg the Russian that beat Naseripour lost so he's out

at 55kg Daliri lost in the first round v RUS. Russian is in the SF so Daliri can be pulled into the repechage

at 65kg Miri lost to TUR. Turk is in the SF so he can be pulled into the repechage.

(80kg is out)

at 110kg Paidar lost to UKR in the QF but can still be pulled into the repechage.

So from the first day of GR, 2 guys are out, 3 have lost but can still be pulled into the repechage for possible bronze. no finalists (or even semi finalist). terrible.

if anyone knows anyone in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana, ask them to place a wager on Zare to win gold on Barstool Sportsbook. Zare is currently at +3,300, so bet $100 to win $3,300!

Irani is the only one who lives in America here I believe. He will probably be rushing to make this bet.

at 55kg the Russian made it into the final so Daliri is pulled back into the repechage, although he has to face KAZ then IND just to get to the bronze match against GEO.

at 65kg the Turk lost so Miri is out.

at 110kg the Ukrainian who beat Paidar got teched by RUS so Paidar is out too.

So for the first day of GR, four out of five wrestlers are out totally with no hope of a medal! Only one guy is in the repechage (55kg Daliri) but he has a very hard route to a Bronze. Worth noting that in 2019 Iran won the team ranking for GR (by quite some distance, with 4 golds)... So this is a really tragic showing by comparison.

I looked him up and just remembered the Russian that beat him in the final failed a drugs test and he was upgraded to gold (although Wikipedia still lists Elkanov as the winner), I remember because the UWW press release messed it up and listed Amouzad as the new gold medalist instead lol

how do you know he stopped wrestling?

Some wrestling page from Kermanshah (where he is from) which seems reliable and has a good following posted that he stopped a long time ago. He was not entered in the trials for the junior teams in 2019 or this year so it seems they were correct. I would have liked to see him wrestle Firouzpour.

55kg Daliri lost his second repechage match v IND and is out. All five GR wrestlers yesterday are out with no medal! And I think maybe 3 combined wins in total...

Today we have two guys in the SF, Rezaei at 60kg v GEO and Abdevali at 71kg v AZE.

The other three all lost: 51kg is out, but 45kg and 92kg can still be pulled into the repechage.

In other news, Iran has their first Olympic Gold medalist of the 2020 Games: Javad Foroughi in the 10m air pistol.

at 45kg the Ukrainian that beat Ahmadi 1*-1 has been dominating everyone else and is in the final, so Ahmadi is in the repechage with a good chance of a Bronze (BLR and KGZ to beat).

Rezaei at 60kg won his SF v GEO 3-0 and looks solid, will wrestle for Gold v KGZ.

Abdevali at 71kg won his SF v AZE 7-2 and will wrestle for Gold v MDA. Abdevali looks fantastic, really exciting style and always looking for big scoring opportunities. The other guys haven't been great, but I'm most impressed and excited by Abdevali, hopefully he can compete with Kavianinejad (who can only be 2-4 years older than him) in the near future.

92kg Jalali was also pulled back into the repechage and will wrestle EST then ARM for potential Bronze.

So for day 2 of GR, 2 finalists and 2 in the repechage. Much better than yesterday.
