Gary Kessel needs to retire

Recommended Posts

Something no one mentioned yet. DiCamillo got warned for stalling in that match.

WTF

That was a legit stall call. The fact that the Ok State kid didn't get hit for stalling was atrocious, but the stall call against UVA was by the book because of how out of bounds and stalling interact now. No problems here with the call against UVA.

Serious question. Is there not a fall if nobody has established control, yet one wrestlers shoulder blades are flat for 1second?

A fall can happen regardless of who has "control." It can happen in neutral, or it can happen against the wrestler in "control."

Agreed that the stall against UVA was legit even though he was forcing the action. The way the rules are now there are certain situations that are a required stall call even if you are up 24-10 and have 12 takedowns to 0 shots for your opponent. There was a similar situation in the Marinelli/Martinez match where Martinez just walked backwards off the mat and out of bounds even though Marinelli hadn't even touched him. That is an automatic stall call even though Martinez certainly wasn't stalling at any other point in that match.

Not that this made any difference in the match, but it is annoying when it is coupled with the other flaws in this match.  I wish someone can screenshot 10:28 of the match and post it.  Stepping out of bounds to avoid action is one thing, getting bull rushed out of bounds is another.  What is DiCamillo supposed to do?  If you check the Boyd-Dean match at 6:10, Boyd keeps Dean out of bounds and ref stops action...but no stall call? This new OOB stall call provides way too much subjectivity on enforcement.  Either make it a step out rule, or just eliminate it.

Any one who has seen or been involved in one of Kessel's seminars, knows that he will call stalling if you continue to back up to the edge. In his own words he explained to a wrestler who said "the guy was pushing me"! His response was "push back".

Wrestlers and coaches in general do not seem to change their strategies according to referees tendencies as they do in other sports.
