tOSU's Snyder MIA

Recommended Posts

You said "did john smith bail on his team", unless you were refereeing something completely unrelated to this thread that was a reference to snyder

It was a reference to John Smith not bailing on his team.

As a Buckeye fan, I did not feel for one second that Snyder's absence had anything to do with Ohio State's awful performance last night.  I don't care that they lost.  I care that the team looked like garbage with the exception of Kollin Moore and Luke Pletcher.  I'll give Bo a mulligan.  Rest of team was terrible.

Yet, with Snyder they likely would've won.

My guess is Buckeye fans are fine to lose a dual, knowing that they have produced 2 different world champions in the past year.  That's twice as many as Iowa and Penn State have produced combined since 1996.

I'm not saying you are totally wrong with this analysis because I see what you mean, but why take valuable mat time away from Holloway? Not to mention give up a dual win. Snyder isnt a pinner so a tech was most likely anyways which would have tied the dual.

the proper thing to do would double forfeit the heavyweight bout and then wrestle it as an exhibition.

Understood, my reply was directed at Silvermedal's opinion of tOSU's performance.

Snyder at the Yarigan makes all the sense in the world to me.

Did John Smith bail on his college team after becoming World Champion? What about Barry Davis after his Olympic Silver? Maybe it is a generational thing, keep those millennials happy by letting them focus on themselves.

Absolutely agree. The proper way to look at this situation is that Snyder is first and foremost a member of Team USA and then secondarily tOSU. Once you view it through that perspective, any negativity about the situation is unfounded. Like a few of said, the Buckeyes are fortunate to have him at all under the circumstances. I personally give him a ton of credit for what he is doing.  Can you imagine if he wrestled in the Iowa dual and stuck their backup instead of Magomedov in the Yarygin finals?!

Congratulations to Kyle Snyder. Good for him and tOSU both. His coach makes the sacrifice so the team can benefit at the NCAA tournament and the USA can benefit in major International competition. Both win.

But what is this silly 'glory to god' crap? He isn't a muslim and myths and silliness don't work on the mat.

It is silly.  But that is the Tom Ryan, Trevel influence.  Kyle had a picture on his twitter feed of a lion with a zebra carcass in its mouth and it says "there is only one king," to which Dlagnev replied "agreed...just one!" with a picture of the crucifix.

Why criticize the guy's faith? It seems to be working just fine for him.

I'm an atheist, and it doesn't bother me at all.

I'd understand if he was actively trying to sell it to your kid, but he's just a sport star tweeting victoriously. I'm sure his faith helps him focus on what's in front of him, his day-to-day and hour-to-hour decisions, his internal dialogue can stay more one-dimensional by making it all about serving the Big One. It probably wouldn't be the best approach to making nuanced decisions, but I'm sure it helps him maintain his body and focus on being the best athlete in the world, and come up with the courage to beat all the guys that a guy his age has no business beating.

Great for him! - Glory to God!

How do you think Snyder's teammates feel about him not being there? Any insiders?

I suppose if they are upset they could go to the mat and settle their differences. I wonder how that would go?

What does that have to do with tOSU Snyder being MIA?

oh, it was a completely random statement that happened to fall in the context of a thread about kyle snyder not wrestling in a dual meet for tOSU. Now I get you.
