Tofurky 600 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 http://www.iowastatedaily.com/sports/wrestling/article_c19b8ef2-f5fc-11e6-bf1c-97e6110bf2fd.html As posted by someone else on the other Dresser thread. If true, do the three recruits who asked for releases now reconsider? Does anyone follow him from VT to ISU? Where he may struggle with in-state recruiting (thanks to Iowa), can he now make up those gaps with his east coast ties? If this is true, I am psyched for the future of the Cyclones. Plasmodium 1,680 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 I think this indicates ISU is very committed to wrestling, which is a ray of sunshine in an often bleak environment. 1 xander reacted to this

It is almost as if people who don't live and breathe college wrestling can follow the simplicity of team versus team competitions and results.
Perry 1,258 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Seems like a very strange jump for dresser. He turned VA tech into a top 4 program that is still doing well - why bail on it for a floundering isu program? Did they double his salary or something? TBar1977 3,953 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Feel badly for Va Tech fans, but this will be good for the Cy Hawk rivalry. Edited February 18, 2017 by TBar1977
Chrissn2001 80 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Seems like a done deal from what Flo is saying...Will the Hokies go with local guy Darryl Weber or promote an assistant?
Creek chub 182 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Reportedly cyclones did offer dresser double his salary. I'm assuming either vt didn't counter offfer high enough or dresser wanted to move back to iowa,
wrestlingphish 701 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Now people are saying it's not a done deal. I am guessing he is still headed there but wanted to wait until after the dual tomorrow for the announcement.

silver-medal 670 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 He is not young and has one of the finest programs in the country. Just can't imagine him leaving unless it's for a lot of money and/or he wants to return to Iowa.
npope 157 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Oh, c'mon people! His home state; more $$$; a state where the populace are actually aware of the sport of wrestling and care about its results; storied tradition. Yada, yada, yada. Yes, he built VT into a formidable force in wrestling, but that was just a stepping stone, albeit a pretty good job as stepping stones go. Brands took off when the opportunity came. Don't you see the pattern? Edited February 18, 2017 by npope
NYWRESTLER94 221 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 Dresser coaches a team that brought back a trophy from the NCAA tournament brands never did that at Virginia Tech. Situations are a bit different
wrestlingphish 701 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Dresser coaches a team that brought back a trophy from the NCAA tournament brands never did that at Virginia Tech. Situations are a bit different Well Brands was the head coach there for a whopping two years. Is Gibbons a better coach than Cael because he brought home an NCAA championship at ISU and Cael never did? Situations are a bit different You think "bringing home a trophy" means that you won't take a better offer if it presents itself? Really? Have followed any NCAA sports? silver-medal 670 Report post Posted February 18, 2017 When dust clears, Dresser will remain at Va Tech. This is a negotiation.

You think "bringing home a trophy" means that you won't take a better offer if it presents itself? Really? Have followed any NCAA sports? the key words in the post were the situations aren't exactly the same. Brands left very early and Dresser has built a team that now contend for a trophy on the national scene. At this point in time the only thing appealing about the ISU job compared to VT is the possible recruits and the chance at more money as well as being back home.
