klehner 396 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 The original tables showed six at-large bids at 125 (with 27 AQ slots). Why are there now only five at-large bids given? http://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/article/2017-02-23/college-wrestling-di-qualifier-allocations-2017-championships

Looks like the SoCon is the culprit. The original table showed 2 automatic qualifiers and the selection table shows 3. Housebuye 2,133 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Well Arizona State got kinda screwed here... Glad Bullard made it in. NC State made out well! All deserved
Housebuye 2,133 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Also how did Cornell's 125er not get in...Baughman. He has a ton of wins over qualifiers (4 I think?) plus a solid season overall, including a pin over Picc
sockobuw 49 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Knowing no details, the Michigan kid with a 13-15 record at 141 seems surprising from here. he beat cruz, longo and prince early in the year. went 2-8 down the stretch against good competition. i had him and zanetta from pitt 18-13 4th acc battling for the 33rd spot. coaches poll and rpi liked profaci going into conferences. gromit 421 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) Pasone must be the additional (6th) 125 at-large...a typo or will they have to tell him he's not going? ;-) Edited March 7, 2017 by gromit
GranbyTroll 430 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Knowing no details, the Michigan kid with a 13-15 record at 141 seems surprising from here. I saw another kid with a losing record. How is that even possible? There aren't enough kids with positive records? Eric Barone Illinois 10-11 Big Ten

He was on SHP's list of those attached to pre-B1G AQs. Must have made it on RPI and CR. However, after checking, those were 28-CR and 30-RPI. Headscratcher? Eric Barone Illinois 10-11 Big Ten Barone is 10-9. 8 of his losses are to guys who made the tournament. He beat a couple qualifiers as well
Buckeyebison 87 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 I imagine that Joey Gunther could only get in if Cody Burcher who beat him at Big Tens got in. Surprisingly, though.

steamboat_charlie 727 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 Damn Jake Ryan beat Ruschell last week but Ruschell got in? Unfortunately, that was Ryan's only "notable" win of the entire season (if you can call it that). Ruschell at least has a few W's over higher ranked opponents. lu_alum 710 Report post Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) ??? These guys who earned AQ ARE in NCAAs, aren't they?? Earning an AQ for the conference means they qualified an NCAA spot for the conference (e.g., top four place winners) prior to the conference tourney. AQ earners must still place within the allotment or get tossed into the At Large pool. Surprised that Earl Hall didn't earn a spot, but made at large. Same thought about Hall, watched the Big 12's, and this was his third (maybe more?) meeting with Montoya (UNC) on the backside semis, and Montoya was prepared for his style. I'm glad that Hall got the At Large, he's exciting for sure.
