TBar1977 3,953 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Not controversial at all, imo. In fact, DeSanto totally took it to Lee tonight. By FAR the more aggressive wrestler. 3 td's to 1, and maybe 12 shots to Lee's 1 counter. 12 shots to 1. Think about that for a second. Congrats Austin DeSanto, Your vision quest is complete. TBar1977 3,953 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Lee broke. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk This. DeSanto owned him in that 3rd period. Looked like Nolf vs. a guy holding on. Lee needs to improve from what he gave 2nite if he is going to win Big10 and NCAA titles. Edited March 12, 2017 by TBar1977

TBar1977 3,953 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 Word is Lee was wrestling with a torn acl. Guessing that played a big part, but it is still a huge deal.
sgallan 592 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 By all accounts DeSanto is an exceptionally skilled (duh) and big 126. Lee is an exceptionally skilled (duh) but small 126. Size matters. Still beating Lee is a big deal and DeSanto has a great future going forward. Lee will do well but isn't getting much bigger. He'll will have the same problem in college as he did against DeSanto. He is a guy that needs the old 118 collegiate weight class; and 52 KG in freestyle.
Maher103 3 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 Video on flo shows 0 before the ref gave the 2. Too bad HS doesn't have replay. 1 GranbyTroll reacted to this

The points don't get earned when the ref calls for the points... the Takedown was secured a moment before the time ran out..

BUT... and not that you are saying otherwise, but it important to note that HE is the one that decided to wrestle tonite, leg wrapped or not. He also accepted an invite to wrestle Daton Fix at Dapper Dan, so how bad could his leg have really been? Lastly, we all need to give DeSanto credit here. 53-0 and Austin took it to Lee from the start and dominated the 3rd period.

BigTenFanboy 1,739 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 Not being 100% is not an excuse and is part of every sport. DeSanto's win was legit and deserves all the credit in the world,
Maher103 3 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 I understand that the points can come before the ref signals. Watch the video. When you slow it down frame by frame ( the refs dont have that option) ts clear that they just started the roll when the clock hit 0.

DeSanto's win was legit and deserves all the credit in the world, A lot of fans will start alibying Lee, but those same fans won't give Penn State a pass if Suriano can't go (on top of Cortez not being able to go). Injuries are part of the sport. 2 BigTenFanboy and Maher103 reacted to this

When you slow it down frame by frame ( the refs dont have that option) ts clear that they just started the roll when the clock hit 0. I have watched both PCN as well as the video on Flo. I see control before 0. You can even pause the video and see a moment with control and 01 still on the clock. The Takedown was legit. Furthermore DeSanto controlled the action the entire match. Maybe in 10 rematches Lee wins all 10, but not tonight. This was a valid 100% win for DeSanto and the CORRECT call by the refs.
Maher103 3 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 I feel bad for both. Lee loses on a bad call and no matter what happens, DeSanto will never ( other than having the medal) receive the full credit from everyone. Always going to be an asterik. 1 Jasonmitchell32 reacted to this

Billyhoyle 2,028 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 The mentality that injuries don't matter and that there should be "no excuses" is just stupid. We have seen injuries impact many wrestlers over the years (Delgado, Mcdonough, Letters, Pucillo, etc). Injuries do matter, and if in fact Spencer Lee wrestled the state finals with a torn ACL, he clearly wrestled a great match. This seems to be his second major injury in two years though...Very concerning for a guy who is a 2020 contender. 1 Cletus_Tucker reacted to this
