Not dominant but still able to win or place at least for this year. Did you watch the World Cup? Then beats Dake.

I watched them all. He will be in contention for a medal with an outside chance to win, but only because the weight is weak with Geduev and Yazdani both gone.

I had always pulled for JB until tonight, when I was neutral because I'd also like to see Dake get a shot at a world title.

I think the right guy won. The aggressive guy won, at least. I don't think Dake did much to win. I don't think JB did much to win either, but he didn't get all flamboyant and whiney, which is better than what Dake did.

I wonder if Dake would have had a better shot will less drama. My guess is yes, and JB won the head game.

0 Takedowns for Dake, and he spent the entire match in a three point stance.  You can't complain about the ref when you do that.

Burroughs isn't what he used to be, that's for sure.  Dake isn't any better though, unfortunately.  Either way, no matter who we send, we are no longer dominant at 74 kg.

I can't see how people are complaining about JB's hands the to the face..He has done that his entire career.  Remember when Belarus was tossed from a world semifinals for almost starting a fight because of it?

Belarus was tossed because HE was the one with hands to the face not Burroughs.  He was a total prick the entire match.  That's what happens at big boy tournaments.  Dake might want to get used to it.

JB's days MAY be numbered but not but Kyle Dake. He is damn near as old and does not have the skills to consistently beat JB. Love both wrestlers but dont understand how people think JB is declining AND Dake has found the fountain of youth. But I also dont think Ringer is the answer. Maybe Valencia or better yet MH.

I think JB won fairly, but the rake of the face must be called consistently.  Retherford gets dinged for 2 (disagree). yet nothing for JB ( I agree).  Until FreeStyle can get their act together, most won't be interested.  Best wrestler doesn't always win the vast majority of the time...not good.  Too subjective.

I do not favor Dake or JB. From a ref malpractice standpoint that was simply wrong. Dake simply should have won.

Wow now you sound like dake winning and crying!!! Not going to do you any good get over it...Eyes are in front of our head so we  just move forward!!!!

Burroughs was wrestling his normal style, and Belarus was very upset at all the hands JB was doing to the face, so he hit back.  It was called against Belarus, but not Burroughs.

When you are the icon of a sport, you are going to get away with things.  It's like how refs in basketball would call fouls against Michael Jordan or how they do against Lebron James.

Either way...Dake and his fans shouldn't be blaming the refs when the guys spent the entire match in a tripod, and his only offense was 2 pushouts.

Rutherford gave up a Caution and 2 after posting on JOs face 2 times, Burroughs does it 5+ and never even got an attention

A total BS call in regard to Retherford. That's wrestling...figure a way through it.

So that makes the calls (or non-calls) right?

I'd consider Dake 1-4 against JB for the time he took a match into OT when he should have won by UWW rules at the time more than what happened tonight. Get over it. He lost.

Dieringer is NOT the answer at 74 for the US. He's not anywhere near athletic or quick enough to threaten for a medal consistently. Mark Hall is our most likely medal threat here in a couple years IMO with a few other studs in the ranks behind him.

If you go by your standards its 1-5 now

Maybe its because a lot of people dislike dake, but I don't see how anybody could argue that wasn't questionable officiating. Just my opinion. Still think Burroughs is great and could win worlds again.

Nope JB got his hands raised  PRYAN you suck at predicting any matches so just don't!!!

I don't care about JB or Dake. That was wrong for the ref to intervene at the end like that when JB was surely going to lose. I smell a big fat dirty rat. I am happy for JB. He will win gold in a weaker weight even though he lost a step. Amazing he can lose a step and still be the favorite. Truly he is an all time great!

All this guy does is cry and complain about loosing, Well now he cant say that its not fair JB and Him wrestled the Tournament and JB won.  I think KD is pretty darn close and if he had more international tournaments he would be ranked I just think him and JB are getting to know what the other one does so hard to complain about them not doing much.

Dake is a whiner,  A great wrestler, but a baby.  How about letting it go and score some points?

Wish I could say I was. Just stating what I observed. They were on people all weekend for dropping to a 3-point stance and called it for passivity routinely. They let Dake get away with it nearly the entire match so I don't feel bad for him at all for not getting the hands to the face call he was looking for. I honestly think part of his strategy was to stay in that stance and take hands to the face in hopes of getting points out of it. It didn't happen and he ultimately threw a massive tantrum after the match. I have no stake in this fight and I would be fine with Dake being our rep if he ultimately takes the spot in June. Just stating I think the outcome and officiating was justified based on how they made calls all weekend.

If hands to the face was part of his strategy it was a dumb one; that is a tough call to make against a WC/Gold Medal winner when you are not engaging yourself. If they had made that call everybody would have been screaming about the ref taking too much control. I was rooting for JB, probably because I picked him to win, but like you, if Dake ends up with the spot, I would be okay with that.

I like both these guys, but USAW really looks bad after this one.  This looks like a backroom decision made by the organization in order to keep their cash cow on top.  Dake on the clock twice and Burroughs zero?  Burroughs did NOTHING.   Its kinda hard to complain about how corrupt the Olympic officiating when we've had such suspect officiating over the last few days (not just the Dake/JB match), capped off by literally handing our most famous wrestler a win (and ignoring clear rules violations).  Sorry, but its real hard to defend the sport to others, feels like professional boxing...

Regardless, I can't see JB winning big on the world level again. He's flat out gonna get called for those hands to face when USAW isn't there to tell the ref to overlook it.  Hes definitely lost a step.

and JBs only offense was a straight arm push while Dake had the controlling 2 on 1

Dake is a major whiner, but he has a point about the constant extralegal shots to the face. Two hand shove to the face, multiple eye pokes, etc. Zain probably can't believe it either after what he was penalized for. That said, he will get no breaks on passive/shot clock calls if he stays in a tripod or one knee down stance.

It's a shame his biggest weakness is his conditioning, because he is really outstanding when he actually wrestles (e.g., when he's on the clock). It just seems like he doesn't have the lungs to go hard all the time.

I could see the argument that it shouldn't have been called.  But it is very far from the worst call i've seen in wrestling..And very far from the worst call i've seen this weekend.  Dake was sitting back in the tripod way too much. He was playing with fire by doing that.

It's not like they gave Burroughs the caution and 2 at the end..Dake still had 45 seconds to score and win the match.
