The wrestling competition will start tomorrow with the Greco. here is the entry list

https://baku2017resu...000_32A 1.0.pdf

so many famous names in Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and even Kyrgyzstan squads. even Adam Batirov ! Azerbaijan didn't sent A team to the Euro and saved them for here. the only missing name is Asgarov who is banned for a year because of doping.

PS: This list is not final, for example Komeil Ghasemi is a bit injured and won't wrestle there.

Surprised to see a few of the wrestlers from the Asian games in there.

LOL at Saudi Arabia sending a team.  I wonder where these wrestlers are bought from.

I don't like Saudi Arabia as well but have to say they don't buy athletes. that's for Qatar, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Kazakhstan and etc.

I don't like that the Turks are participating in this.

They should stay away from anything islamic as a secular nation.

The country- as a slim majorityis against islamist thug Erdogan.

Big cities are overwhelmingly anti islamist, that's where it counts,

not in the barn

Do the participants have to be Muslim/members of the religion?

Or is is just for nations with a population who practice belief in the religion?

Could the US send wrestlers who are members of the religion?

Only members of  "Organization of Islamic Cooperation" can participate, the participating athletes should not be necessarily Muslim

US is not a member

Azerbaijan dominated the Greco competition with 4 gold medals, Iran won 2. with one gold for Turkey and Kyrgyzstan.

for Iran, they sent most of A wrestlers to the Asian Championships (unlike freestyle) , the only interesting result was Geraei beating Chunayev. he was down 5-0 with 30-40 seconds to go but he won the match with a big throw and gut wrench after that.

freestyle competition will begin tomorrow, Yarahmadi's draw at 74kg is really interesting, Hasanov in 1st round, then Abdurakhmanov and Demirtas in semifinal if he makes it !!! you won't get such brutal draw even at the Olympics ! lol

this link shows most of wrestling competition live (even though they sometimes go to the other sports)

I fundamentally disagree with any competition that limits the participants based on the religion of the participants, or the majority religion of the country they are from.  It seems to contradict what sports are about or should be about.

I agree to a degree, but whoever wants to have-say only blond 34 year old Irishmen wrestling competition should have the right to do so.

Yeah that is murderer's row right there

just lost to an unknown guy from Kazakhstan, he was very poor . I think both him and Atri are waste of time.

Ok. After this I've given up on him too. I gave up on Atri a long time ago. Sarmasti at least is a very good athlete but I doubt he goes anywhere in wrestling at this point.

Yarahmadi also goes down against Abdurakhmanov after beating Hasanov in 1st round. he got pinned the same as Sarmasti.

Nasiri used his easy draw to make it to the final againt Magomed Muslimov.

This current Iran team is horrible at some weights. No depth outside of the top guy at 57, 65, 70, 74 and 97. 61 and 125 are pretty strong. 70 is OK with Hosseinkhani. I think they can medal at 74 out of those weights because it's a weak weight around the world anyway. Maybe 97 also. 65 even the top guy is horrible until Mohammadi comes back.
