Pico Want's To Have His Cake And Eat It Too

Recommended Posts

You're probably spot on about above.

Does his opponent frequently uppercut or did he see something that caused him to roll it out special? I'm not that knowledgeable about MMA or boxing, but it sure seemed that PIco was leading with his chin. No side-to-side. Just straight ahead. Any boxers out there?

Boxer right here.   You're pretty spot on.  Lack of head movement.    Pico just walked right into him, seemed surprised by the knee and then stood there.     What a chin though, gets absolutely cracked and doesn't go out.     Has a guy on his neck immediately and doesn't panic.    He fought it until the lights were going out.    As a coach you like to see his reaction and how he dealt with the adversity.    The next step for Pico is keeping him out of that adversity with technical adjustments.

I thought there might be a 🍅 can in this fight, I just didn't realize it was Pico. Ok, that's a little over the top.

What this fight really shows is that always gotta prove it. Every single time.

The great irony of this fight is that if Pico had come out with a plan to wrestle instead of to throw punches, he probably gets the guy on the ground and wears him out with relative ease.

The guy is a BJJ world champion.   Pico had the right game plan, stand and attack the guy on the feet.   He just did not execute.  Taking the ground specialist down and fighting where he is best wouldn't have been a good approach (although there's no saying Pico wouldn't have won had that happened).

Pico said he "hasn't watched whole film yet".....and that he "enjoyed every minute of it".

I took the above a bit out of context but kind of funny given it was 24 seconds :-).

Mark hall lost his official debut too (@ CHA) .... and he turned out fine. He also had similar classy no excuse type of remarks too.

The ironic thing for me is that before last night people kept jumping on me saying that Lesnar was an experiment and Pico was the real deal, something I agree with.

After last night, the who Pico thing FELT more like an experiment.

In Lesnars debut to the naked eye he looked like he was on his way to a dominating KO win and got caught in an unlucky scramble.. when in actuality Mir was just a smarter fighter.

In Pico's debut to the naked eye he simply looked out classed.

One minor correction BTF.

Brock Lesnar won his debut.   It was against a completely over matched opponent  who had no shot at beating Brock.  You can't compare Pico's debut with Brock's.   Pico fought up a weight class against a tough veteran.          Here's the bout

Dana told Brock he had to have one bout before he could fight for the title. I'm sure it helped to further hype the title fight. Got caught by Mir above average HWT BJJ skills in that next one though.

Ahh yes Kim Minsoo.. The 1996 Judo Olympic Silver medalist..

I think I've already stated several times ad nauseum that Brock's competition was weaker than Pico's. You're right though, I forgot about that match and mixed up his UFC debut bout with Mir as his actual debut.

Still my point it that yes Brock Lesnar was a bit of an experiment. I completely acknowledge that, but for me after last night the whole Pico situation feels a lot like an experiment as well.

As for fighting up a weight class, I can't really comment on that, but Freeman did weigh in .2 lbs lighter than Pico.

Freeman was also considered the underdog in the match.

Not doubting your veracity, but how is a bjj world champ only the 10th rated mma fighter in the kansas missouri region. Something does not add up.

Freeman was a Purple Master 1 World Champion at the men's middleweight division. Anyone who is familiar with the system feel free to correct me, but I believe this is the lowest experience level for the Master Purple belt at the division. There appears to be 6 different Master levels in the competition for each of the belt levels. He obviously has more BJJ experience than Pico, but considering his level and the fact that he was fighting out of the bush leagues in cornhole Missouri I am not shocked he wasn't ranked very high.

He is not even close to being a World Champion in BJJ. He Won his weight division Masters 1 at Purple belt. That is like saying the old guys that show up for AAU Veterans Worlds are "World Champions". You can play semantics, but everyone in the BJJ world would laugh at you if you called yourself a "World Champion" with that on your resume. BTW, I won the absolute division of the next belt up.

Pico now needs to make a MMA rebound to restore the integrity of wrestling. When one of our most highly touted wrestlers flops like this, it makes wrestling look weak and illegitimate. Pico should not return to wrestling until he conquers MMA...

Wrestling doesn't need its integrity restored in MMA.  Even if Pico is a failure, there are still dozens of wrestlers who have/will have made strong impacts on the sport.

I'm just passing on what the graphic said when he came out for the fight.      If he's not a world champion, Bellator put out faulty information.  I don't follow bjj.

His title is a World Champion Purple Belt Master 1 in the male middleweight class. Shortening it to just BJJ World Champion makes it sound impressive. Just like saying, "The President of the United States hosted a dinner" sounds much more impressive than, "The President of the United States who bragged about grabbing women's vaginas, appeared on two different softcore pornagraphic films, hosted two WrestleManias, is twice divorced, and compared avoiding STDs as his own "personal Vietnam" hosted a dinner.
