DRD5748 10 Report post Posted July 12, 2017 Somewhat odd, somewhat understandable to see the incredible 15-p thread on Patrick Downey, especially with the dad weighing in to attempt to set the record straight (as if smurfs care about that). What never appeared was online reporting the past 4 days which indicated that the only D-1 school where he could compete both semesters would have been ISU. But they've recently indicated 'no, thanks' with a full release given. Any other Div.1 signing him would be 2nd semester only, if he graduates with ugrad degree this Fall studying online. In all fairness, it actually WAS addressed several times - look at page 4 and page 8 - Here is the quote from his dad "So, he WILL earn the degree and be eligible for the spring semester, unless, of course, he decides to wrestle for ISU, in which case he'll be immediately eligible to wrestle and get in his first-ever full D1 season. Big 10 conference." He actually says EXACTLY what you say never appeared. I can't find one iota of these two statements that are mutually exclusive. It's totally possible for somebody to wrestle only in the spring semester, and to win a national championship. His dad was trying to get $100K+ out of some SEC schools to get Cam to sign. The dad is in the mold of Lavar though, if that's actually him. I can't imagine any parent thinking they are doing their kid any favors by "defending" them and getting into internet fights like that. At least Lavar's intentions are clear with the brand building, merchandising, etc. - he wants to make a buck and pave a way for his other two kids to one day get into the league.
