KTG119 820 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 imo of course George Mason- Johnny Curtiss Old Dominion-Jody Staylor or Buddy Lee. Jason Bryant may have a different answer, more modern if nothing else. Virginia-Scott Moore, only one season at UVa but what a season. Otherwise Chris Henrich is the only 3 time AA and placed as high as 3rd. DiCamillo capped his career last season with a 2nd place after 3 times being top 12, they'd be my top 2 if looking at 4 year careers. VMI-Charlie Branch Virginia Tech-Devin Carter Programs No Longer Active JMU : tie between Brian Kurlander and Mike Coyle. HM Jeff Peanut Bowyer

ISU had arguably the #1 and #2 best college wrestlers of all time. mspart 1 denny reacted to this

mspart 270 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 For BYU - Aaron Holker before they dropped the program. There was a guy who took 4th for BYU when I was there, but Holker later became an NCAA champion for ISU. I'd say he was the best at BYU. mspart

KTG119 820 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 Other easy ones that come to mind immediately: Bakersfield: Stephen Neal Iowa: Tom Brands I agree Neal is the guy but maybe not a total slam dunk. John Azevedo (2nd, 2nd, 1st) , Joe Gonzales (2 years at CSB went 2nd to Gene Mills and then 55-0 as a senior), and Dan Cuestas (2 timer) were pretty damn good as well. Iowa - I await debate on this one. Tom for sure is in the discussion but not an easy one. TJ Williams 3 time finalist in 3 seasons with 1 career loss; Lincoln Mac (my pick if I had to make one), Ed Banach, Joe Williams, Barry Davis, etc etc.

MSU158 1,983 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 Other easy ones that come to mind immediately: Bakersfield: Stephen Neal Campbell: Nathan Kraisser Clarion: Kurt Angle Harvard: Jesse Jantzen Iowa: Tom Brands Iowa State: Dan Gable NC State: Nick Gwiazdowski Penn: Matt Valenti Penn State: Ed Ruth OSU: Pat Smith OU: Mark Schultz Syracuse: Gene Mills WVU: Greg Jones Didn’t see UC Davis in there, so I’ll add it: Derek Moore Gable over Sanderson? Huge fan of Jantzen, but O'Connor has a solid argument with an undefeated season under his belt. Also a huge fan of Brands, but Iowa has guys like Lincoln Mac, Lewboo, Barry Davis, the Williams boys and the Banachs to choose from as well. I would also go with Ruth at PSU, but I could see arguments for a few others. Pat Smith isn't a lock in my opinion. The early OkState years produced some monsters and John Smith may be one of the best ever at the peak of their DI careers. OU has a lot of super strong history. Martin, Evans, Hodge, Abel, Metzger, Kilgore and Douglas could definitely be argued for.

TJ Williams lost in the semis. you are right on TJ. 1, 3, 1 not a 3 time finalist as I had posted. still best career winning % at Iowa. trivia or fun fact as my kids like to say : the only year Ed was #1 seed is the year he did not win it. There’s not enough mention of Cael of this forum so I thought I’d throw that out there to get the juices flowing. On the others, it’s hard to make a decision unless you have criteria as to what we’re taking about, e.g. best career versus best peak level achieved, folk style only versus consideration for freestyle as well, etc. You make good points, either way. 1 MSU158 reacted to this
wrestlingnerd 2,999 Report post Posted November 1, 2017 Probably between Brands and Ed Banach. TJ Williams lost in the semis. I give it to Brands because of who he beat to win three times. He faced some absolute hammers. Alan Fried would’ve been an all-time great had he been born a few years earlier or later. He is easily the best one-timer ever and in my opinion better than a lot of two timers and even some three timers. He was an absolute beast who had the misfortune of being Brands’s contemporary. 2 KTG119 and headache reacted to this

TJ was great but, like his brother, had a lot of close matches. Ed Banach, I think, is Iowa career leader in points scored at the NCAA. McIlravy was great but had a slow senior year due to concussions. Ed had the better final's loss - Mark Schultz>Marianetti. I'd go with Ed Banach.
