Titan Mercury WC draws clubs from Canada, India and Bulgaria in Pool A at Freestyle World Clubs Cup in Iran

BY GARY ABBOTT, USA WRESTLING | DEC. 06, 2017, 4:40 P.M. (ET)

The defending World champion Titan Mercury WC of the United States will battle club teams from Canada, India and Bulgaria in its pool competition on Thursday at the Freestyle World Clubs Cup in Tehran, Iran.

This is the World Championships event for men’s freestyle wrestling clubs from around the world.

There are 13 club teams in the tournament, representing 11 different countries. The USA is in a Pool A, which is a pool of four teams, while the other three pools include three teams.

The Titan Mercury WC is loaded, with four past World medalists and many of the top stars in American freestyle today. The team features 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Kyle Snyder (97 kg), 2017 World silver medalist Thomas Gilman (57 kg) and 2017 World bronze medalist Nick Gwiazdowski (125), plus Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico, a 2011 World silver medalist.

Titan Mercury WC opens at 10:00 a.m. in Tehran against the Montreal (Canada) club. Three past Canadian Senior World Team members are on the team, Steven Takahashi (57 kg), Jordan Steen (92 kg) and 2016 Olympian Korey Jarvis (125 kg).

The second Titan Mercury WC dual meet will be at 11:15 a.m. against a club from India. This team has extensive experience, led by 2013 World silver medalist Amit Kumar (57 kg), 2017 Junior World bronze medalist Ver Dev Gulia (74 kg) and 2011 Commonwealth champion Pawan Kumar (86 kg)

In the second session of the day, Titan Mercury WC closes out its pool competition against NSA Akademik (Bulgaria) at 3:00 p.m. The Bulgarian club has a number of young athletes, but nobody with major Senior-level achievements.

During the evening session, there will be four cross-over dual meets, featuring the second place teams in all of the pools and the third-place teams from the pools. If Titan Mercury wins its pool, its next match would be on Friday, instead of during the Thursday night crossover bouts.

Last year, Titan Mercury WC defeated Bimeh Razi of Iran in the championship finals of the Freestyle World Clubs Cup. In 2014 and 2015, Bimeh Razi beat Titan Mercury WC in the championship finals dual meets. Bimeh Razi is in Pool C, meaning the teams would not meet until the championship match if they win their earlier duals.

Titan Mercury reports that there will be live streams will be @iranwrestling. Titan Mercury will keep fans updated all night long via Instagram and Twitter @titan_mercury! TMWC will also be doing contests and giveaways all night long!

Tehran is 8 ½ hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone, meaning Titan Mercury’s first match will start at 1:30 a.m. U.S. Eastern time (10:00 a.m. in Tehran).

This will be great if Sadulaev really does wrestle. Should be fun to see how he rebounds after Paris. Will he just destroy everyone here at the Clubs?

.......me too, wish J'den was here to wrestle the Tank.  Oh well, hope Heflin throws the kitchen sink at Sadulaev and something sticks.   :D        (If they wrestle.)

Bimeh Razi Club roster

57, Younes Sarmasti

61, Masoud Esmaeilpour, Iman Sadeghi

65, Meisam Nasiri, Ahmad Mohammadi

70, Hamed Rashidi

74, Bahman Teymouri, Khetag Tsabalov

79, Ainuar Geduev

86, Javad Ebrahimi, Kamran Ghasempour

92, Abdulrashid Sadulaev

97, Mojtaba Goleij

125, Yadollah Mohebbi, Komeil Ghasemi

Another real fun match (again if they wrestle in finals) would be Sarmasti vs Gilman. Was just watching a few of Sarmasti's matches on youtube and this guy likes to wrestle. 2013 Jr World champ and he can hit upper body throws, ankle picks, blast doubles and more. He gives up big scores too. Wonder how close he was to beating Rahimi over the past few years for Iran's 57 spot?

At 61, has any American ever beaten Esmailpoor? He beat Reece twice, Coleman and Logan. :(

so I guess we cannot watch this? This is embarrassing, honestly, looks like one of the most awesome events of the year and we cannot watch it...

which iranian TV is showing it?

It's a little confusing, the TM tweet implies that it'll be on Twitter and Instagram via Iranwrestling.

"What time is TMWC wrestling tonight? Here is the complete schedule for the World Clubs Cup daily competition. Live-streaming of the World Clubs Cup will be supported on Instagram and Twitter @iranwrestling & we will keep updating & providing as much live coverage as possible @titan_mercury"

Yet iranwrestling has never made a tweet, makes me skeptical.  Twitter doesn't really do live streams for regular accounts outside of something like Periscope, which is too low rent for an event of this size.  Don't use IG so not sure if they do.

How does the link to Titan Mercury's instagram work. And where exactly is it? I can't figure it out. I just signed up to establish an instagram account but am having no luck in getting a live feed.

3-0 in pool. Something like 27-3 in matches. Lots of dominant wins. Twitter saying wrestling semifinals at 9:45am Eastern against winner of pool B.

Saw one match — Snyder winning 9-0, tries for TD to get tech, fellow was ready and hoisted him over ... Snyder couldn’t hold on to legs, ends up winning 9-2.
