How is 2 years more NOT an advantage, simpleton?

I’m not LDS, but to think it’s an advantage would be false. Tanner Hall did his mission and there was little time to do anything wrestling related. Two years away from any practice and any competition might keep you fresh, but it also makes you rusty. There are tons of wrestlers who have taken their LDS mission ... how many of them were All-Americans? Ain’t that many. Matt Brown, Aaron Holker, Ben Kjar, Tanner Hall ... those are the only four I can think of off the top of my head. If it were an advantage, Utah Valley should be a lot better than they are ...

Does Andrew Long have any eligibility left?

Maybe Carl can help him again.

I disagree. If you don't think that 2 years more physical and mental maturity matter on the mat, then I think you are deluding yourself. Do you think there was much difference between, say, Larry Owings his FR year in college and his JR year in college? Two years can mean a lot. Essentially the "mormon redshirt" is a big unfair advantage....to get 2 years "mission" AND a redshirt?  It's conceivable that a guy could START his RS FR year at the age of 22, maybe even older. That's a huge advantage, sorry to tell you.

Sure, you could say their wrestling is rusty as hell after no competition for a couple years, and you'd have a point. But all it takes to knock the rust off are a few matches, then they are left with only the advantages of their 2 year mission.

Loved watching that kid wrestle. On the mat, at least, he was a winner.

It's time to end "Mormon redshirts". Big unfair advantage.

Before Mission Tanner Hall beat Kyle Snyder. After mission, can't beat Nick Nevills.

The haterade is strong. Ohio State gets a new 141 and a new 165, both AA caliber,  and you are worried about Carson Kuhn. Lol.

Not worried, but the noose is getting tighter.

It's great to see!

He should be eligible for parole if he's not already out of the joint yet.

If he gets the typical “man muscles” at age 25 there’s no way he’s making 125.

Matt Brown talks about serving on his mission in his book. Pretty much worked all day with push-ups and running at night. Other than some shadow wrestling, nothing wrestling related for several years. Can't see how that is an advantage.

^ It's not. Utah Valley gets a ton of LDS kids who were HS studs and they are almost always terrible

Anyone but Heil '18

Let's not forget Hochstrasser in this discussion. He was great, and sure fun to watch. He had his mission after his freshman year. He was also Kuhn's coach at Boise, for whatever that's worth.

If healthy--which is a big if--Kuhn could be the difference-maker in Cleveland.

Plus, you are talking about DI wrestling.  You don't take 2 years off and just walk back in.  It is much more than just rust.  Muscle memory, natural instincts, wrestling fitness, assimilating into class load and school requirements.

Matt Brown was a very rare person.  His discipline and physical fitness were incredible. Plus, he had a ridiculous room around his weight to, either get better quickly, or realize DI wrestling wasn't for him.

Who wouldnt be nervous? Their current 125lber has had a whopping total of 1 win this season thus far. tOSU is capable of AA at all 10 weights. To not be nervous would be nuts.

This tells me Carl is nervous.

It tells me Cael is reasonable

I want tOSU to beat PSU, so no this isn't me being a PSU homer.

A rational coach will always try to have the best team possible. This is even more important in a year where you are a title contender.

Of course Cael is concerned about losing to tOSU. I am sure he believes PSU will win, but there is risk there. He needs to reduce that risk to the best of his ability.
