Rate the PSU 149 thru 184

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think or at the very least like to see Hall at 165? He just looks so small at 74. Rumor has it Hall commited silently to the Bucks and Tom Ryan to come in and be the 165 after Marinelli decommited, and that all changed after visiting Cael and PSU. In a fun retrospect/hypothetical...imagine this tOSU lineup for one minute with Hall going 165 for the Bucks? Absolutely insane.

I could be wrong here, but I think in an interview (might have been after Jr Worlds) Mark Hall said he had a tough time cutting to 74kg (163lbs) and doesn't want to wrestle down there again. (Paraphrasing and just going off memory - might be wrong here.)

I thought the exact same thing watching last night. I've always thought Hall was very small for 174. Makes his title even more impressive. I think Zahid wins this year though.

Hall is smaller than Zahid, who’s huge, and Bojo, but he is not small. He cut from the 180s TWO summers ago for freestyle and is on record at least twice since then saying 74 kg was a tough cut. That was with day before weigh-ins.

He is not particularly tall but he is very dense and well put together.

Nerd what you say may all be true but without question, to my naked eye anyways, Hall looks undersized in just about every match he's in. He looks dwarfed against Zahid and BoJo by comparison. Jadeen Bernstein made him look very small by comparison recently, it's not just a few select guys. Maybe my eyes are going with my age. Well I hope not at 41 but who knows.

I agree with you. He does look smaller than some his opponents but apparently he's right there at this weight class.

If I’m honest, he looks a little smaller than the average 174 to me too. But them’s the facts, so I’m going with them. Also, he does look bigger than I expected in person for what that’s worth.

Some of the guys who look huge have unbalanced physiques. Bojo and Zahid have skinny legs relative to their upper bodies. This creates a bit of an illusion that they’re even bigger than they are because our eyes naturally gravitate to the torso. Jordan Burroughs is like that, relatively small (but powerful) legs and a massive upper body. Troy Letters also comes to mind as being top-heavy. The guy who epitomized this was Chris Campbell, who had the upper body of a guy two weights higher but the lower body of a guy two weights lower.

Anyway, Hall has a very well-built and balanced body. That may be part of why he looks smaller than he actually is. If he was cutting form the 180s his senior year in HS and having s tough cut to 163 with 1-day weighins, he can’t be too small for 174.

You don't think Nolf is?

In the last 8 years, Nolf has 4 folkstyle losses. Ryan Diehl his Sophomore year of high school, James Green his redshirt season, and IMar 2x his freshman year. That's a winner in my book.

A lot of the same things I have always said:

PSU get bonus points to the point it is like they have an extra wrestler.

At this point it should be a given that Sanderson knows how to peak his team.

The big five.... Zain huge bonus. Nolf almost as huge bonus. Joseph in the finals at the least. Hall the same. Bo the same. They get 4/5 at the least.

Team race, Maybe some points at 125 where none before. Same at 133. Not a lot but enough in a close race. 141 is a shirt that had to be pulled. Low AA or round of 12. 197 a kid who was always talented and is suddenly a beat. If he is as good as he looked recently he seals the deal. Nevills???

Coaching matters. In all sports. Carl is as good as it has gotten since a guy named Dan.

It should be obvious I wouldn't be surprised if tOSU wins but the PSU bonus, and ability to peak for the one that counts wins.

Heads up, sure, with a two weight class advantage. At their respective weight classes, I don’t see how you put him ahead of Nolf when he already lost this year and may not even be the best guy at the weight while Nolf is neck and neck with Zain as the lb for lb best in college.
