nom 1,210 Report post Posted January 19, 2018 Looks like Gross / Meredith inspired Jordan to challenge Chamizo. Love it. Love our wrestling giant thinking of the fans and the sport. Odds it will happen? Dunno. Chamizo has replied but I see no firm commitment. 1 Tofurky reacted to this
dmm53 624 Report post Posted January 19, 2018 Sounds like it could be a good one if it happens. But, truth be told, it is bolder to challenge a guy up in weight rather than below. 5 headache, Alwayswrestling, sgallan and 2 others reacted to this
nom 1,210 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Well, up a weight for Burroughs is a brand new weight. No one to challenge. And he's already dealt with Dake, who I feel is the likely champ at 79 ...... well, I really don't know who the competition is but Dake is looking great. tbert 563 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 I'd like to see dake @ 79 and burros @ 74 match. I would actually pay money above and beyond Flo reg price
hammerlockthree 2,638 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Burroughs would stand no chance at a 5 kilo deficit. 1 tbert reacted to this
TheRealOne9050 267 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Yeah, we talked about it in the other thread. Chamizo is going up a weight anyways, so it's likely to happen in the future.
Coach_J 2,188 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Bring it to a travel friendly city with a nice undercard and they will come.
BigTenFanboy 1,790 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Snyder vs Sadulaev was a pretty big super match.
Shiraz123 866 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 I hear Flo will be organising this. Anyone know what the pay will be for these two? Seems like a big event.
pamela 1,334 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 BTS, maybe? A separate stand-alone event with a full card of matches sounds much better though, esp if the results could be factored into UWW rankings.
Tofurky 633 Report post Posted January 20, 2018 Is Geduev too heavy for 79? Up until recently he didn't have the option and had full outgrown 74 only moments after the Olympics were over. 1 spladle08 reacted to this

Will this be where Ben Askren calls out some third through sixth ranked guy on the American ladder?
silver-medal 670 Report post Posted January 21, 2018 This is a great idea and should be expanded to include Snyder, Maroulis and a few others. Present the concept to ESPN and see if they'll televise it.
Cletus_Tucker 890 Report post Posted January 21, 2018 Very cool. Hopefully something comes of this. And as mentioned above, Askren on the event would be a fantastic addition.
headache 149 Report post Posted January 21, 2018 Sounds like it could be a good one if it happens. But, truth be told, it is bolder to challenge a guy up in weight rather than below. Uh . . . challenging a guy in a lower weight is not a good optic. If this is prelude-hype for a big payday for these guys, Frank should have challenged Burroughs. I'm puzzled. If this is prelude-hype for a big payday for these guys, Frank should have challenged Burroughs. I'm puzzled.Meh maybe it would’ve been better, but it isn’t bad optics. Chamizo is going up anyways and has a dynamic style. Burroughs seems somewhat vulnerable but still always wins This is a compelling match. Maybe they should do USA vs the world and put our A team in there Gilman vs Olympic gold or the Japanese guy that beat him Dake vs Geduev Burroughs vs Chamizo Cox or Taylor vs Iran Also maybe matches like Gable Stevenson vs some Russian hvwt up and comer hammer Fix vs a Russian top 3 guy Etc I think if promoted correctly it could bring s ton of exposure to the sport in the US I’ll host a party at my house with 20+ people, most of whom are not wrestling fans. That should get us started. 1 Cletus_Tucker reacted to this
sgallan 592 Report post Posted January 21, 2018 Snyder vs Sadulaev was a pretty big super match. In every way imaginable. All those credentials in a world championship match, last match of the tournament, to decide the team winner. It doesn't get any better than that. 2 2td3nf and Cletus_Tucker reacted to this
de4856 379 Report post Posted January 21, 2018 Chamizo is phenomenal, but so is Burroughs. Add in the extra size that Jordan has, and I think it's too much for Chamizo.
GoNotQuietly 1,175 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 I think if Chamizo tries to wrestle the same style he had against Green, Burroughs will tear him to pieces. He is a very unpredictable cat, though.
bigmik 218 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Sounds like it could be a good one if it happens. But, truth be told, it is bolder to challenge a guy up in weight rather than below. Yep. There is only a few specific situations where it is okay to challenge the guy below you, and this isn't one of those situations. When you are more accomplished, the favorite in most people's minds in a hypothetical p4p match-up, and are the only sure-fire first ballot HOFer in the match, it's not very bold to challenge the smaller man. That's why the general, unwritten rule is to challenge the champion in the higher weight class. Challenging Yazdanicharati would have been significantly more bold than challenging Chamizo. Yazdanicharati won the title the last time the two were in the same weight. 2 Tofurky and rd149 reacted to this
pamela 1,334 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Have JB and Chamizo trained together? I figured the challenge was issued because were friends, or at least friendly... but I guess Chamizo was doing an IG Live and Burroughs hopped on and asked when they were gonna wrestle - lol. Chamizo is kind of an interesting ambassador for the sport. He travels the world to train, hangs out with celebs, makes media appearances, goes out and competes and lives kind of an "Instagram lifestyle". I get that the flashiness and self-branding turns some people off, but he does an amazing job showing the world - and esp younger fans - that it's cool to be a senior level world wrestler. 3 AllISeeIsBronze, de4856 and TheRealOne9050 reacted to this
