Well, the Yarygin is starting to become a JV tournament for Snyder, so the man has a point.

Really sad to see Nolf—the most exciting and innovate wrestler in the NCAA—go down because of an injury default.

You do realize Snyder doesn’t “take off” anything during the season he just won the Yarygin, arguably the toughest tournament in the world, for the second year in a row. You can seriously say with a straight face Snyder is at an advantage not wrestling college amateurs over the toughests professionals in the world during the season, that’s an unfair advantage he has??

Snyder is not competing every single week.  Snyder does not go through the grind of a college wrestling season and has not done so since he was a freshman. Yes, that is an advantage. Especially when the conversation is about guys going undefeated.  Snyder doesn't risk having an off night, or getting caught, or having to wrestle with a tweaked ankle, or whatever else. Going undefeated is impressive because it isn't just about talent. It is about consistency.

Are you now claiming Snyder isn’t consistent? He has won 3 world level golds out of 3 tries

If the point is he takes less risk because he doesn’t wrestle a full folk season, fine. I can’t prove he wouldn’t lose to random guys, but he has had 1 competitive match since freshman year and it was against a returning 2 timer who now has a world bronze.

Who would’ve beatenb him, even on an off night? When did he skip a match he had any shot at losing?

Just made the changes.   19 undefeated guys left.   A few match-ups this weekend that should lower the number again:  Joseph vs. Marinelli, Coon vs. Snyder, Retherford vs. Sorenson.  Perhaps even Pletcher (undefeated) vs. Micic.

In fairness Ryan would never have his guys wrestle with a tweaked ankle or even an ingrown hair. #protectthatseed

Judging by the score Snyder had an "off night" against Nevills.

Without the jet lag and weight cut would the match have been that close?

Let's say Snyder has had, since his sophomore year, a 98% chance of winning every match he wrestles.  He's on track to wrestle about 50 matches since his freshman year.  At that 98% chance in each match that gives him a 40% chance of going undefeated.  That's not bad.  Shows just how good he is.  But his freshman year he wrestled 34 matches.  If he'd continued to wrestle 34 matches a year that's 112 more matches.  Again assuming a 98% chance in each match then he'd have had just a 12% chance of going undefeated over that period. And 98% is probably pretty high as an average for every match. Going undefeated is hard in large part because of the sheer number of matches most guys get in a season.  Snyder is an amazing wrestler, one of the best the US has ever produced.  But he is barely a college wrestler and shouldn't be included in the college discussion for things like an impressive record.  He's 7-0 right now.  Lots of guys were 7-0 at some point this season.
