NJDan 677 Report post Posted January 28, 2018 Spencer Lee says he can do 50-60 pull-ups, but that Dan Dennis can do more than 100. Meanwhile Guiness says the record for pull-ups in one minute is 54. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2017/12/7-new-strength-records-which-raised-the-bar-during-2017-507682 What gives? Housebuye 2,231 Report post Posted January 28, 2018 It is probably the definition of a pull up is a bit different. Is the official record full hang? Can you use the momentum from the previous pull up? Where do the hands need to be? Chin? etc

AllISeeIsBronze 64 Report post Posted January 28, 2018 I'm pretty sure their form would not be as pleasing as we would want it to be. There's an Iowa S&C video on Youtube of Brent Metcalf absolutely crushing barbell curls or something, but with terrible form just to get the weight up. Even so, if kipping or not exactly full range of motion, a hundred plus is insanely tough, especially if he is still hanging on the bar while resting. hammerlockthree 2,086 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 the guiness guy didn't "kip". And kipping is only a bad thing from the least athletic perspective on training.
TripNSweep 510 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 You guys should see Anthony Robles do them. After he graduated high school he was at the state tournament here and ripped off 73 or 74 in about a minute at the US Marine recruiting booth where they have a pull up bar to challenge anyone who wants to try. No offense to Dennis or anybody but that's kiddie stuff in comparison to the kind of strength Robles has, just ask McDonough about how strong he is. Plasmodium 1,699 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 The numbers for those guys would be be considerably less for the "in a row" counting method. Call BS on all of the wrestlers mentioned. I heard when Gable was in his prime he could do 56 with Chris Taylor hanging on his neck. 2 Yellow_Medal and Medicine_Man reacted to this
TobusRex 2,021 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 (edited) Looks easier than what I always thought up as a "chinup". When we did it in the Stone Age our hands were only allowed to be about a foot apart. Really penalized the guys with long arms. That guy's arms were almost 3 feet apart in the video above. Plus he was allowed to "touch down". Once our feet touched the floor, bam, done. Edited January 29, 2018 by TobusRex

AllISeeIsBronze 64 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 the guiness guy didn't "kip". And kipping is only a bad thing from the least athletic perspective on training. Kipping is fine, it's only been exaggerated from the hideously ugly form some Crossfitters use when doing kipping pullups. But they are advantageous for efficiency (and so, less "work") than no-kip version.
TripNSweep 510 Report post Posted January 29, 2018 Uh, having half of a lower body might help perhaps? Are you joking? Doesn't change the fact he still did it and is stronger functionally than most wrestlers even to this day. Also it doesn't have much to do with him missing a leg, but more to do with the fact his upper body is incredibly strong. 2 Mpchillin and AllISeeIsBronze reacted to this

Nobody has ever debated that. But you can't honestly think the missing leg doesn't have much to do with how many pull ups he can do.
