Which pair is better? Ruth / Taylor or Rutherford / Nolf?

Recommended Posts

I think it should compare two pairs who were classmates - as Ruth and Taylor were - thus the more accurate comparison would be Nolf-Nickal and not Nolf, Zain.

Otherwise, you could pair Stieber and Snyder since they were on the same team at least 1 year (2015).

Having said that - I think Ruth and Taylor were a stronger pair than Nolf-Nickal, but possibly not as strong as Stieber/Snyder or Zain/Nolf (assuming both NOlf and Zain win this year).

Shouldn't Nolf's freshman year be 22? Maybe i'm doing it wrong.

If Nolf and Retherford were lined up, the comparison would be:

Zain Nolf

Year 1: 34

Year 2: 55.5

Year 3: ?? (whatever Nolf scores this year + Zain's 28 from last year)

Year 4: ?? (whatever Zain scores this year + whatever Nolf scores in 2019)

Taylor Ruth

Year 1: 35.5

Year 2: 55.5

Year 3: 54

Year 4: 47.5

You can't really count them as a combo if they weren't actually together.

Taylor: 2011-MD,TF,Dec.,Dec,Loss=1+1.5+0+0+0=2.5 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+12 for 2nd place=2.5+4+12=18.5

Ruth: 2011-Fall,Dec.,Loss by def.,Dec.,Fall,Dec.,Dec=4 bonus+1+1+.5+.5+.5=3.5 advancement pts+10 for 3rd place=4+3.5+10=17.5

2011=36 pts

Taylor 2012-Fall,Fall,Fall,Fall,TF=9.5 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=9.5+4+16=29.5

Ruth 2012-Fall,MD,Dec,TF,MD=6.5 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=6.5+4+16=26.5

2012=56 pts

Taylor: 2013-Fall,Fall,Fall,Fall,Loss=8 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+12 for 2nd place=8+4+12=24 pts

Ruth: 2013-Fall,Fall,MD,Dec,MD=6 bonus pts+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts +16 for 1st place=6+4+16=26 pts

2013=50 pts

Taylor: 2014-Fall,Fall,Fall,MD,Dec.=7 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=7+4+16=27 pts

Ruth: 2014-Fall,TF,MD,Dec,Dec.=4.5 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=4.5+4+16+24.5 pts

2014=51.5 pts

Retherford:2014-Dec.,Dec.,Dec.,Loss,Loss,Win by default=2 bonus+1+1+1=3 advancement pts+7 for 5th place=2+3+7=12 pts

Retherford:2016-TF,Fall,Fall,Fall,MD=8.5 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=8.5+4+16=28.5 pts

Nolf:2016-Fall,TF,MD,TF,Loss=6 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement+12 for 2nd place=6+4+12=22 pts(not sure how I got 19)

2016:50.5 pts

Retherford:2017-TF,TF,TF,Fall,TF=8 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=8+4+16=28 pts

Nolf:2017-TF,TF,Fall,MD,MD=7 bonus+1+1+1+1=4 advancement pts+16 for 1st place=7+4+16=27 pts

2017:55 pts

I think you can group Steiber and Snyder for the one year they were together. What you can't do is take one guy's score from one year and add to another guy's score from another year. So 15, 22, 28, 24 combined with 16, 28, 25, 26 doesn't equate to a combo scoring 56 points because you had to pluck scores from different years to get there. That duo's best year was their 3rd and the number is 53 points that year.

Well, when Neil Young is your 4...

The only reason CSN invited Young is they couldn't do live shows without him. Stephen Stills played all the instruments in the studio before Neil Young came along. I guess Stills/Young had a little bad blood from Buffalo Springfield, but Young was too talented not to grab.
