Shooting at CMU

Recommended Posts

Our local High Schools have shooting teams. Trap shooting at one took State last year and Pistol shooting team at another took State in their category. Their rifle team has members who qualify for the Olympic Training Center. The kids learn marksmanship, safe handling of firearms and respect for what they can do. Even with that one never knows about that deranged nutcase who may come out of the woodwork.

Being in a rural area we have a lot of semi-auto rifles around. Makes for quick follow up shots so you don't have a wounded animal get away to die a slow and painful death later.

Hope all are safe in the school and campus and no further damage happens.

Wouldn't it be easier to instantly kill animals with a recoilless rifle, avoiding the shame and moral implications of letting it suffer until a follow up kill shot?

Just saw a news report that the shooter was a student who killed his parents when they came to pick him up for Spring Break.

apparently he had a drug related incident yesterday and was in custody until this morning when he was released to his parents who were going to take him to a rehab facility.

This was posted on the MAC site:

An update on the MAC Wrestling Championships will be provided no later than 11:00 am ET tomorrow morning. A schedule of events will be announced once finalized.

WTH!?!  It's supposed to start at that time (doors open).  So fans are just supposed to show up then and hope that the schedule has not changed?

Why be a fool in public with this silliness?

We nail coyotes, foxes and even weasels and mink that go after the animals we raise. Losing a cow is basically a $1000 loss at a minimum. Many of us also hunt in season as well as shoot geese that wipe out acres of planted crops. Two geese feeding on a field can result in over $1500 crop loss. Firearms are a part of daily life in farming and ranching. They are also fun and no problem if not misused. Hunter education courses for young hunters are the norm here.

Very different from big cities. We have kids who are not old enough to drive on the roads legally driving farm machinery. Family Farms do depend on family members.

Teach proper use and responsibility and it usually works. Nothing is perfect.

As an aside, my neighbor's grandson can't buy a civilian hunting rifle now at some stores as a result of the knee jerk reaction on selling to those under 21. He is a military sniper. Something is screwed up.

I agree, it would be more ethical to capture the wild animal and take it to a Vet to murder it with a lethal injection. Such as we do our pets. Then we can absolve ourselves of any guilt.
