Lewis, Massa, and Iowa's corner

Recommended Posts

I agree, always thought it is dumb of coaches to do say something negative about the opponent. Whenever I heard an opposing coach chirp about me it always motivated me to beat his guy and shut him up.

I point out guys being tired. A lot of it is mental. When a kid looks at me, sees/hears me pointing out the obvious, and then wants to shut me up, they many times take some really bad shots and end up giving my guys an edge come the finals score. That's as far as I'll go when addressing another wrestler and what is going on during the match.

Its what all good coaches do.  They yell out what seems to be instructions to their wrestler to try to get calls from the ref or break the focus and concentration of the opposing wrestler.  Some guys take it personally.  I cant count how many heavyweight matches I have influenced by yelling "keep attacking" after leg slaps and pummelling.
