BSUBroncoDynasty 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Seeing Tariq Wilson come out of nowhere at NCAA's this year, I can't help but wonder how high the ceiling is for this kid. Seems like he can take down anyone with his length, and with some more fine tuning I am excited to see how well he can do in the future. Watching him take Gross down 5 times (I'm still disappointed he couldn't finish the 6th in OT) and then dominate Pletcher in the 3rd place match, the future is looking really bright for NC State with him and Hidlay in the fold for another 3 seasons. Housebuye 2,065 Report post Posted March 19, 2018 He is a title contender at 133 Rumor is he might move to 141. I’m not sure if his length will work as well up there, but Pop knows how to train manly guys, so Id expect him to do well at 141 if that’s where they put him. WrestlingFan89 246 Report post Posted March 19, 2018 I think he had a great run no doubt, but Gross would have a much better game plan in a rematch. I know that Tariq could also make some adjustments, but let’s be honest, I don’t think the staffs of the top 133’s put a lot of effort into scouting Wilson prior to NCAA’s. 1 stchrist reacted to this

Old142 15 Report post Posted March 20, 2018 I cant help but to think his leverage will be nullified by some of the best next year after scouting him better. Nothing against the kid or the program, It's just history has proven his body type at the lightest weights hasn't been the most successful. Lizak for instance was never going to win an NCAA title even with his length and "backpack" gig. He had a great tournament, his quickness is far from legendary however. NCAA champion more so. Using societal norms only Burroughs and Snyder, or current wrestlers even get a nod. So does this mean they are not superstars? Actually, in the big picture of the sporting world it is exactly what it means.

lu_alum 690 Report post Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) I'm a fan. Does he wrestle freestyle also?Yes. From an article in a hometown area newspaper last Spring: “Wilson recently saw success on a national stage by taking part in the 2017 U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas. Entering the tournament, Wilson was placed on the watch list as one of the top redshirt wrestlers in the country. Wilson, wrestling for the Wolfpack Wrestling Club, had a first-round bye before picking up wins over Vlad Kazakof of Nebraska Golden Eagles (14-3), Drake Foster of Wyoming Wrestling RTC (13-10), Chance Ikei of Unattached Arizona State (15-4) and Nick Farro of Lehigh University (12-0). Wilson had two losses in the tournament. He said he was chosen to go to Las Vegas for a few reasons. First, the N.C. State coaches wanted to send student-athletes who put the student aspect of college athletics first.†http://www.weirtondailytimes.com/sports/local-sports/2017/05/steubenville-grad-tariq-wilson-makes-mark-in-first-year-at-north-carolina-state/ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited March 20, 2018 by lu_alum 1 pamela reacted to this

I'm not saying his leverage is the only reason he had a SUPER weekend, but it clearly helped him succeed based on his style. He looked to be 3 inches taller than Gross who is pretty good size himself for the class.
