NJwrestlingguy 106 Report post Posted March 30, 2018 (edited) I think it's great some AD's are starting to hold Wrestling coaches accountable for the job they do ( Minus Indiana, Michigan State and couple other)...Having the right staff is everything for a Program..I still remember how bad the State University of New Jersey was in wrestling...They were so bad under previous coach they were slated to be cut...RU was wrestling in front of 50 fans that didn't need tickets...There were very few fans that followed Division 1 wrestling in NJ...RU decided to make a change and now Rutgers has 5,000 average paid attendance at meets and thousands of Division 1 Wrestling fans..It's all about the HC!...How many more fans in South Dakota follow D1 Wrestling now since Bono was coach. NJwrestlingguy 106 Report post Posted March 30, 2018 (edited) Worst Program Builders right now that should move on. Might be good assistants but over their head on building Program 1- Chandler- MSU has so many other problems on athletic front they can care less about Wrestling and that is Obvious. Program is a Debacle and they hire Head asst. coach whos been there 20 years and a Huge part of their decline..What a Mess..MSU has lost to Eastern Michigan last 2 years..Fire Chandler and Hire EMU staff for an easy upgrade. Or a top HS Coach. 2- Goldman- Indiana is a very good Wrestling State that just keeps fading under Goldman. Enough is enough. Just diffucult to watch a B1G program wrestling in front of 50 people/probably less. Hire somebody that is dedicated to building fans and program in a great wrestling State. Duane might be the worst program Builder in History. 3- Papadotas- When Hofstra brought on Dennis Long Island Wrestling and Hofstra were Strong..it has gone down fast..He doesnt seem to have anything possitive going on the Island and surrounding area. He's been there for 4 full years and not 1 of his recruits has been close to even qualifying for NCAA Tournament. Hofstra and Long Island need to make a change. I would add McCoy..cannot believe he is still there Hofstra has many factors contributing to their struggles..they have 20 athlete cap on their roster...tuff to win with that. Not to mention the school costs 63K!

Greatdane67 198 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 Totally agree with MSU. Any other examples of an under performing team hiring the incumbent assistant and ascending to greatness? The more the microscope is put on this athletic department, the more you can see the dysfunction. Indiana is mailing it in. Maryland has had wrestling for 78 years. McCoy has been the coach for 10. 20 different wrestlers have been AA for Maryland. 8 of their AAs coached by McCoy. 3 ACC titles. Not an exactly talent rich tradition. I think the move to the Big 10 was not beneficial for the wrestling program. Hofstra might be one of the toughest job in the entire country. What Ryan did there was nothing short of a miracle. The under performing sleeping giants appear to be Pitt (new coach one year in), WVU (looking for new coach), Iowa State (new coach one year in) and Oklahoma (new coach one year in.) Sheerstress 102 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 MSU will have two solid AA contenders next season in sophs Rayvon Foley and Drew Hughes. I'm willing to give Chandler a little longer to see how things turn out. 2 southend and Coach_J reacted to this
cornercoach 448 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 ..... if i'm Chandler, i'm using the 4x4x2 training method- - - pick 4 guys, at 4 different weights, and get on the mat 2 times a day until the season starts next fall- get a strong nucleus and let things grow from there. Even if it's just rolling around, hand fighting, whatever, for an hour, put a mat section in their dorm room, whatever, but- - - make them commit to the workouts and get better during the workouts..then spread it around to the other guys ...... gotta do something ..... as far as DuhWayneG. is concerned, retire a.s.a.p. and become a postal worker, cause he's been mailing it in for quite a while...... 1 southend reacted to this

Coach John Sacchi had the respect of his peers and wrestlers. Since his retirement, Rutgers has more than doubled their scholarships and has admitted guys that couldn’t get in during Sacchi’s era. Coach Goodale has done a great job and his leadership has been instrumental in Rutgers’ rise to the national stage. However, characterizing Sacchi as an underachiever, is wrong.
