% of single compared to multi time champions?

Recommended Posts

Looking at NCAA  champs this year we had some very good Multi-time champions.

For the schools who have champions - this year and past years - who has the highest percentage of Multi-time champs compared to one time champions?

Penn State put five in the finals. Four of the five won and all are multi-time champions.

How do other schools fare? Iowa next year will have Lee going for his second title if all goes according to expectations.

Looking back - which schools have the highest number of wrestlers who won more than once?

A total of 39 with

one 4X, 15 3X, and 23 2X Champions - their total # of NCAA champs is 86 so the % of multi to total is 45% - 142 titles won in all

According to Iowa State Wikipedia- Ben Peterson won only one. (Actually, I thought he won more than one along with his brother, John, but I was surprised by Wikipedia)

Edit- I went to Iowa State wrestling site and found that Carl Adams and Ben Peterson were omitted from Wikipedia for unknown reasons. I have since updated the reply above.

John went to UW-Stout.

what is more surprising is that John never won NCAA championship but won Olympic gold and silver (losing to the legendary Levan Tediashvili, 6 time World/Olympic champ from Soviet Union)

And Ben did pretty much the same. John went Silver-Gold. Ben Gold-Silver. Both losing to Teddy Bear.

Iowa has 60% of their title winners with multi championships. That is pretty high.

83 Total NCAA titles won by Iowa wrestlers.

50 of them won by multi time champs.

Iowa State is 53% of their total with multi championships.

49 different ISU wrestlers have won NCAA (a total of 69 titles).

16 of them did it more than once.

Pretty high percentage of repeaters in these programs with many Titles.
