Shiraz123 618 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 Anyone else feel these weights have watered down the product? 6 weights is definitely ridiculously low but maybe 10 is too much? I feel like 8 weights with day before weigh in was a better product. 92kg especially is reducing my excitement for 86kg this year, as a lot of potentially great matches are lost. Another thing, are they doing 2 day weigh in during the 2020 Olympics with just 6 weights? That seems almost criminal to make these guys do day of weighins two days in a row with only 6 weight classes. 2 cjc007 and Abdullahgadzhi Khuzin reacted to this
tbert 560 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 I don't think you will have much support. These weights were the goose that laid the golden egg for america.
Shiraz123 618 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 Talking purely from a product perspective. USA won the team title with 8 weights anyway. Russia also benefits greatly with 79, they can put Tsablov at 74 and have Gedeuv/Gadzhiamagomedov at 79.
nom 858 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 10 is perfect. And if I was king it would be mat side weigh in for every match. Take the weight cut crap and get it out of the sport as much as possible. 1 Housebuye reacted to this
steamboat_charlie 727 Report post Posted April 10, 2018 Let's cut it to 5. Then maybe 3. Eventually we can get to 1--that's the only way to ensure the competition isn't watered down.

Billyhoyle 1,988 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 It’s not as if this is the first time that we have had 10 weights. I think it is great for worlds, but do like that there are fewer for the Olympics. It will make for more “super matches†between world champions. Ideal would like 7 or 8 Olympic weights though. de4856 360 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 No, I think that eventually these weights will be filled with superstars like in the other weight classes. And with more weight classes more kids, young men will get a chance to wrestle and participate in this sport. Which hopefully leads to more people becoming involved in our sport. I think it's a win, win.
maligned 455 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 92kg especially is reducing my excitement for 86kg this year, as a lot of potentially great matches are lost. Not sure I agree 10 is too many, but I do see your point about the bigger weights. Sadly, UWW feels very married to the 6 Olympic weights and made the 10 fit around that structure in a strange way. Having the lowest weight slightly lower and then spacing better would be ideal. Maybe 8 weights from 55 up to like 88--then only 2 weights bigger than that. You can always adjust in the Olympic year back to 6. There's always a creative solution for the qualification for the 6 weights even if they don't match perfectly at worlds the year before. 1 quanon reacted to this

mostTD 33 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 6 made it easy for me to recall the lineup for a bunch of countries. 10 was pretty hard to keep track of in my head.
stp 544 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 It's nice, they now give participation ribbons to (near) Olympic caliber wrestlers.

And isn’t good enough to make the Olympics?
wrestlingnerd 2,593 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 Sorry, but this thread deserves to get nuked. The golden years of wrestling had 10 weights and it was the best product the sport ever had and has ever had since then.
