knightflyer150 6 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 (edited) Twenty-plus years ago, I wrestled on a D1 college team that was severely underfunded (and ended up being cut). I follow NCAA very closely, but still am unclear about what the rules are regarding pay and volunteer coaches. My understanding is that each D1 team is allowed the following: 1 paid HC, 2 paid Asst. Coaches and a Volunteer Asst Coach. Is he compensated with tuition? Stipend? Paid by boosters? Paid by fundraising? Camps? Oftentimes, they may not even have a university email. Do they receive health benefits? I'm curious and it's April. Edited April 11, 2018 by knightflyer150

spladle 179 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 It's a legit question. I don't know all the NCAA rules pertaining to asst coaches either.
paboom 204 Report post Posted April 11, 2018 Volunteers are paid and in the big programs rather well. Do you think Varner is making under 80 grand? Some volunteers are also still competing through the RTC. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Another case of our lack of parity, in the big programs, the volunteer is paid by the university while the smaller programs have to fundraise to pay a volunteer. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk The word is volunteer (as far as the school is concerned) for a reason. The school does NOT pay them. That having been said, it is generally true that the better programs are able to "fund raise" via their independent clubs (rtcs). They pay them. 1 knightflyer150 reacted to this
