NCAA Trophy Contenders

Recommended Posts

The 10 Teams that will likely be battling for Top 4.

Obviously, Penn State is almost certain. The battle for 2nd thru 4th could be very interesting.

Weight class changes, additional transfers, Redshirts & injuries will all have an impact on what order these teams place.

Lineups were my "best guess" from various message boards.

Thoughts ?

1. PSU

2. Either Iowa or OSU

3. Same

4. tOSU unless they concede for down the road. Then it will be either Michigan, Mizzou or Cornell.

For VT, I think it will be:

157 - Lewis

165 - McFadden

174 - Bolen

184 - Zavatsky

but it could be:

157 - Laprade

165 - Lewis

174 - McFadden

184 - Zavatsky (Bolen redshirt)

The 3 transfers definitely make next year more interesting in Blacksburg.

IMO, it will all depend on Lewis's ability to make and hold 157.

Lewis wrestled Junior WTT at 163 & McFadden wrestled U23 at 174.

Lewis just did an interview with Jason Bryant and it sounds like 157 is the plan.

Minny could fit into that top ten group:

125) Russell

133) Lizak

141) McKee

149) Thorn

157) Bleise

165) Allar

174) Krone/Webster

184) Webster/Krone

197) B Steveson/Anderson

hvy) G Steveson

Michigan could do some musical chairs around 141 and 149. Still, I expect Silva to stay in redshirt.

125:Mattin

133:Micic

141:Storr/Freeman

149:Amine/Storr  141 looks to be the best spot for Silva, which would make sense for Storr and/or Freeman to get a head start at 149.

157:Pantaleo

165:Massa

174:Amine

184:Embree

197:Davison/Striggow  Striggow may big brother him for a bit, but Davison is legit.

285:Ready-Unless they decide to go all in with Parris right out of the gate.

As the Title of the thread was "Trophy Contenders", I drew the line at Top 10 Teams and that is probably a real stretch for realistic chances of finishing in the Top 4.

Although Minnesota, NC St., Rutgers & a few others could crack the Top 10, I don't think they are Trophy candidates.

Just a guess

Metzler/Aguilar

Suriano

Van Brill

Ash

Not sure

Van Brill

Grello

Gravina

Lightner ?

Correnti

I see Colucci as the Rutgers 285. My understanding is that Correnti is staying at 197.

From "Transfer Thread".

"NCAA just permitted immediate penalty free no permission required transfers. This arms race just got another boost. Can't wait until a school wins a natty title with half their line up or more being poached athletes. That should eventually happen in hoops and wrestling."

===========================================

Transfers are affecting the Team Trophy race. Just about every Trophy contender has a transfer that will score Team Points.

Iowa : Desanto & Lugo

Oklahoma St. : Martinez & Geer & White

Ohio St. : McKenna & Campbell

Michigan : Micic & Storr

Missouri : Leeth & Flynn & Myers

Arizona St. : Millhof & Mason Smith

Cornell : Stroker

Virginia Tech : Myers & Blees & Sleigh & Miller

Lehigh : Schram & Paetzell

OkState-add Derek White via Nebraska and I doubt G®eer starts this season.

Mizzou has a few more in Smith, Flynn, and Myers.

You are correct Sir. If anybody show know that it would be me.

I posted the transfers before having my morning dose of coffee 😀

Matt at 197 could do some damage. How’d Colucci look at LU?

20-6 in two post-RS seasons behind Vollaro & Wood. (18-9 in his RS season)

He has two years of eligibility remaining.

The All Transfer team just picked up a 3x AA.

You can probably take Mizzou out of the trophy hunters group too.

Unfortunately I agree. Big blow to Mizzou. I didn't see this coming after the Mizzou staff got him a 6th year.
