Eli Stickley (Wisconsin)

Recommended Posts

Sorry to hear of this. From reading basically the same account on various online news feeds he was a good kid and would have been good for Bono and the program.

Any information on Seat Belt use? Any more on the reason for the accident?

Obituary for Eli Stickley....

https://www.vernonfh.com/obituary/elijah-d-stickley/

What a great live he lived:

Eli and Moriah were homeschooled by their mom and graduated from Graham High School in 2015. Growing up, Eli started wrestling in third grade and later enjoyed serving as a wrestling camp counselor, several years of 4-H, cross-fit, hunting and fishing - especially going on the cousin guys' trips to Canada, that he referred to as the "Promised Land". Eli was a stand-out member of the Graham wrestling team where he was team captain his junior and senior years, ended his high school career a four-time state placer, an Iron Man champion in 2012, and a state wrestling champion in 2014.

His most recent years were spent at the University of Wisconsin majoring in Life Science Communications with a pre-chiropractic route and a proud member of the Badger Wrestling team. Eli was a NCAA qualifier, Big Ten placer, an Academic All-American wrestler and displayed the true characteristics of a student athlete. He was heavily involved in Athletes in Action where he dedicated his time as both a student and a leader. After completing chiropractor school Eli planned on opening his own practice, Chiro-Fit, in Colorado incorporating the Four C's - chiropractic, cross-fit, coffee, and CHRIST.

The car crash that killed University of Wisconsin wrestler Eli Stickley earlier this month was caused by cellphone use, according to an Illinois State Police report made public Thursday.

Just before the crash on July 5, Stickley was showing his girlfriend a video on his cellphone while driving. He lost control of the truck on I-74 westbound, about 35 miles southeast of the Quad Cities, according to the police report which was released as part of an open records request.

Stickley was driving a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup truck westbound at 8:19 p.m. when he drove off the roadway into the right-side ditch, according to the report. The vehicle turned left to re-enter the road, where it flipped multiple times.

Stickley, 21, was pronounced dead at Illini Hospital in the Quad Cities later that night. His passenger, Briana Cleveland, was hospitalized.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Both were wearing seat belts. The Air bags did not activate. No drug use indicated.

Another wreck and death from farting around with Cell Phones while driving. Sad to see this happen when it is so easy to prevent.

Thanks to InterMat for the information.

That's a stupid reason to die. Condolences to his family.
