Freestyle / Greco - head spike into mat

Recommended Posts

Lot’s of the highlights from Fargo include heads being rammed into the mat. Suplexes and other throws. Mat may not be hardwood but damn, it looked hard enough.

Are folks hearing much about concussions coming out of these events?

Echo the above responses.  You have to understand how to fall and absorb a throw correctly (the story of my career!).  As I've said before, I never got hurt wrestling a great opponent who knew what he was doing; rather, most my injuries occurred against lesser opponents who did not execute technique properly or tried crazy things or when I was the lesser opponent trying dumb things.

Saw T.C. almost kill a few guys at NE regionals back in the day,, so head spiking is nothing new.  I'm a greco-guy through and through, but these kids who are too proud to grab a leg once the writing is on the wall need to read some of the concussion research which has been published in the past decade.

So they can give the other kid a concussion?
