Minnesota - 18/19

Recommended Posts

G. Steveson beats Dhesi when the matchup comes.  I could see it 5-2, like an earlier poster said, but I could also see an absolutely blowout by Gable.  Gable is special, wrestles with malicious (in wrestling terms, not actual) intent, and delivers consistently.

G. Steveson, Destroyer of Continents (for now).

There is an argument to make that Dhesi is the least talked about guy who is all but in top tier of their class.  Any others in the top 3/4 of their weight who is talked about/mentioned less?

Evan Wick?

Evan Wick?

Definitely. Marsteller as well. Both have the ability to dethrone Joseph.

Track record shows that Joseph will put it all together in March obviously, and I wouldn't bet against him but those two are certainly champ-contender tier.

I hope Cenzo tries to make a world team next year.

It is difficult to gauge how good he really is. He doesn’t dominate in folk and takes occasional losses. Granted he has been in a very deep weight class for the last two years and always wins when it matters most (if you don’t think the Big10 tournament matters)

If he makes a world team or makes finalx, he will start getting more credit. He is surrounded by phenoms which certainly doesn’t help.

I agree though. There are a few guys who seem like they can knock him off. Wick, healthy Massa, Marinelli, McFadden all have a shot.

Right. You listing off those guys reminds me of how deep a weight 165 actually could be. Throw in Jo Smith too.

I wasnt overly excited for 165 at NCAAs until I got into town for the semis/blood round and it ended up being one of my favorite weights. Saturday morning matches were insane in that bracket.

Saw a tweet this morning saying Gable had the fastest 40yd sprint time of the freshman.

Gable is a special talent, no doubt about it. He has the potential to be the first true freshman champ at heavy.

Gophers get commitment from 51kg Cadet World Champ Matt Ramos.

https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6246821-cadet-world-champ-matt-ramos-commits-to-minnesota

Ramos is great, but his potential is unknown in folk.

He placed 3rd at states and then won cadet worlds...

He also made a jump. We don’t have a history of success from him. He could be just coming into his own now, a freestyle specialist, or just had a good tournament. Could be a little of each.

Excited to see how he turns out. Either way, he is going to pin some people.

Could also change his mind by the time he is ready to actually start college. If he keeps improving PSU, OSU, OkState may come knocking on his door.

Friends of Gopher Wrestling,

Attached is an announcement for the first ever “Gopher Wrestling Gala."

The Gala will be held at Golden Valley Country Club on Saturday, November 17, 2018. It promises to be a very special evening!

Save the date and please plan on attending! We need the help of everyone who loves Gopher Wrestling!

Proceeds from this fundraising night will go directly to creating a state of the art wrestling locker room & team lounge in the new Athletic Village (formerly Bierman Building). It is estimated that the locker room will cost in the area of $500,000, and the construction can’t begin until we have all the funds raised. We have already received an initial gift of $100K.

If you can't attend this grand evening please consider a donation to Gopher Wrestling. More information regarding tickets or donations will be emailed to you within the next month.

We are confident that these facilities will be the best in the Big Ten!

Thank you for your support and I hope to see you on November 17th at Golden Valley Country Club.

Sincerely,

Brandon & Staff

Take McFadden off the list of 165 challengers as it is being reported that he will be at 174 this season.

Yup.

Frustrating. I think McFadden had a shot at winning 165. He isn’t going to beat Hall or Zahid, and is probably an underdog vs Lewis, Amine and Kemerer.
