Junior Worlds 2018

I'd love to see Bey vs Cenzo.

I hear you, but cenzo would kill him in folk and free via leg attacks. Bey would pin him in under 2 min in Greco. Without the threat of leg attacks, cenzo couldn’t hang in the clinch.

Not bashing him, but this is a whole different level

Edit: to be clear, I’d pay to watch it in any style

You never know. That is why they wrestle the matches.

Well yeah. That's why I'd pay to see it. It might just not be a compelling matchup though. Cenzo has a better chance vs Bey than I do in Greco (or any style of course), but the result might be the same - pin as soon as he wants it

People once said Cenzo couldn't beat I Mar. The point being that you never truly know until it plays itself out. Cenzo wrestles with Mason Manville and Ben Provisor so it isn't like he has no idea what he'd be getting into with Kamal Bey, and Bey has wrestled folk (in h.s. but still) and free in the past.

This isn’t like iMar vs Cenzo. Both were folk specialists and Cenzo was understandably the underdog.

Expecting Cenzo to be competitive with our Greco world teamer who trains Greco full time and is a junior world champ is unreasonable. Cenzo isn’t a Greco guy. He hasn’t trained it seriously in years. Even if he does go with Provisor and Manville sometimes, the vast majority of his wrestling time is folk, then some free, then maybe Greco.

If Cenzo is on that level, we will see him in Greco trials next year. If he is beating Manville, he will try to take the world team spot.

I agree with what you write here. Don't disagree with any of it. I still would like to see it.

Correct. Greco is just an entirely different sport. And don't get me wrong, Bey crushes people we have who actually do Greco, he is as close to a superstar as we have, so pulling a folkstyle/Freestyle guy into the greco ranks, is a surefire pin/tech.

But if you threw Bey in that 165/174 range in college, I wouldn't expect him to AA, much less beat Cenzo.

With the way points are scored in Freestyle however, I'm sure he could launch a few people and pull some "upsets"

But on the whole...  yeah, don't expect many Cenzo inside trips to lats coming anytime soon... and don't expect Bey to wrestle any style where leg attacks come into play.

Lets get these 2 golds !

Semis starting in 10 min!

Schultz and Bey competing.

Bey has a super stingy Russian who beat last year’s silver in the quarters 1-1. This style has given bey problems in the past.

Schultz has a winnable match. His quarter opponent I think is better than his semis one, but I’m also not the best at judging Greco talent.

Bey is up 3rd. Schultz is up in 5 matches, so it will be around 45 min I’m guessing

Bey wasn’t outclassed, like the score suggests. That style though still gives him a lot of trouble. The Russian basically tied him up to stall the entire match.

Russian scored the following ways

1 point for passive

2 point turn (slick)

2 point takedown off of a clear desperation move by Kamal

Kamal stops wrestling thinking the match has been stopped and gets turned, giving up 2

He lost the match fair and square but it could easily go the other way in a rematch

I’m super annoyed though. I really want our Greco team to build some hype and Bey was our best hope. Hopefully he figures it out for senior worlds.

In no way being negative, but his style really depends on opponents being a little more vulnerable defensively, that's why Manville gives him issues, I don't think it translates to seniors just yet, but he has years and years ahead of him, and he will figure it out. Definitely a bright spot on the team, heres hoping for Bronze... still holding out hope the greco team as a whole can bring home 3 medals. Going to be a little more difficult now
