2td3nf 537 Report post Posted October 4, 2018 Nice picks. I hope your top contender picks at 74, 79, 86, 97 and 125 are on opposite sides to set up some spectacular finals. (Again, no guarantee they all make it to finals.)

You are right, it all depends on the draw specially when both (or at least one of them) contenders are unseeed. Just so that its clear - when i chose the top contenders, i did not real mean they will come to finals, but just that one of them will win gold! Jaroslav Hasek 1,890 Report post Posted October 5, 2018 Russia is sending different guys in a few of those weight classes. 65 is Chakaev, 92 is Tsakulov, 125 is Khizriev. Chakev is Tsakulov are contenders. Tsakulov may be a slight favorite even. Khizriev will need a very favorable draw or a few upsets to medal imo. pretty solid crack at the weights though. Appreciate your contribution and welcome to the board!

Appreciate your contribution and welcome to the board! Thanks :-) Yeah, you are right. My bad, I did not realize that both Tsakulov and Khizriev are both russian national champs. Tsakulov is definetely a contender. I knew Bekbulatov had some health issues because of which he did not step on mat in Poland Open, but was there a officially confirmation on Chakaev's participation in world championships instead of Bekbulatov?? If it is Chakaev, he will give a tough fight, but gold is not guranteed in my opinion.

Vlad finds a way to win when it counts. He takes losses (like snyder) in the off season, but like he shows in 2016 vs an absolutely crazy field, he knows how to win Aliev looked unbeatable last year. He was sick for a bit this year, like when he lost to Stieber, but I don’t think anyone expects that to happen at worlds (I’d be excited though...) Gadzhiev and Tobier May beat him too. Stieber has a win win over him from 2016 worlds. I think he gets a bronze with the right draw.
freestyle_fan 104 Report post Posted October 6, 2018 When it comes to ‘who will not win gold’ - my gut feel is Uguev (57kg), Chakaev (65kg), Sidakov (74kg) from Russia will not win gold. In 65kg - if Bekbulatov is not there, I think it will be quite an open field for gold among Aliev, Tobier, Kinche and Bajrang. I am rooting for Bajrang (you can guess why) this time for gold! It’s long time India win gold in world championships, if I remember correctly Sushil Kumar was the last one from India to win gold back in 2011. 2td3nf 537 Report post Posted October 7, 2018 65kg should be up for grabs again. Lots of gold medal contenders. Bajrang is one of them. He looks very strong and has great gas tank. He can wrestle the full 6 minutes and he does here as he defeats Iran for the Asian bronze: https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/asian-championships-4?tab=match/311/seniors-fs-65-bajrangb-ind-emamichoghaeiy-iri/731c8d79-1b9b-11e8-8ff4-080027548b1b

2td3nf 537 Report post Posted October 7, 2018 Housebuye, a couple more things regarding the 65kg class. I brought up Bajrang in this conversation mainly due to our new poster - freestyle fan. As I said, Bajrang took bronze at the Asian Championships back in February, but he won gold at the Asian Games this past August where he pretty much crushed the 65 bracket and beat Takatani in the finals. And like I said above, Bajrang looks huge at 65 and seems to have a great gas tank. He is dangerous. My main point is that 65kg, as usual, should be wide open for the taking. This is always one of my favorite weight classes (heck, who am I kidding, I'm very interested in all the weight classes!). Anyway I agree with you that Aliev and Khinch are always tough to beat on the big stage and they're probably favored ahead of Bajrang. But in this bracket there are so many tough wrestlers that can contend for medals. Lastly, hope Logan gets hot and ends USA's medal drought at 65/66kg. 1 1 Coach_J and Housebuye reacted to this
