Lehigh at Iowa

Recommended Posts

Lehigh wrestled seven (maybe eight?) backups yesterday against Penn State, including a 4th stringer at 125.  I struggle to recall a more injured team this early in a season, or ever.

Not sure if anyone will be rushed back just for this dual, so it'll likely be a blowout.

Lehigh is PSU longest running rival and PSU had never won all 10 matches... until yesterday.  125, 149 and 174 were the only matches won by decision.  Don’t see 125 as a close match for Perez, much less Spencer.  Hate to see a team competing with that many guys out.  Hope they get a lot healthier after the New Year break.

To find a team more injured than Lehigh was yesterday, you merely wade through Lehigh's past until one jumps up and bites you.

Lehigh had zero takedowns and zero reversals too.

I was in attendance at the 1993 dual  @Rec Hall....didn't recall it being a shutout, but  http://www.wrestlingstats.com  doesn't lie.

I do remember the Kolat vs. McCumber bout being a real barn-burner (10-9).

McCumber also gave TJ Jaworsky his closest match at the NCAAs later that season (7-5 OT)

Kemerer didn't wrestle a single time this season and will almost certainly get a year to make up for this one.  At this point I wouldn't consider him to be a missing starter any more than Brands or Cassioppi.  He's a redshirt.

Fair.  A lot of guys are banged up, but they were all at the last competition.

Don't you need 2 years out to get a medical hardship waiver?

When a team has that many starters out this early, I would question the training staff and their methods. It is normal for one or two guys to be hurt at some point in the season, but for more than half your starters out BEFORE the season starts - not normal.

possibly the greatest find ever. do other sites have similar databases for other college teams? this is why the internet was created.

It's the food at Lehigh.

Boomer started with this database (Lehigh). I remember his stack of huge notebooks back in the 80s (maybe earlier). Eventually he did NCAAs (including all 3 divisions) which is where most people know of his stuff. He eventually did a few conferences (EIWA, B1G, Big 8/12).  He also did OK St, PSU, Cornell (both of them!), and N Iowa.

John Aadland has picked up to keep Lehigh and EIWA updated. Cornell took it on themselves, I believe. The NCAA has been updated periodically

I’ve been building a number of databases the last few years, really kind of following the late Jay Hammond’s lead on the concepts he had with wrestlingstats. I’ve had to teach myself MySQL. Several of my free lists are at almanac.mattalkonline.com.
