Vito is top 3

I change my mind on this everyday but yeah you could be right. I’m mildly concerned about his bottom game vs a guy like Fausz.

Id love to see him vs Piccininni. That seems like a high scoring back and forth match.

The dude is a world silver medalist and a 5X NY state champ.

Fausz still has weight issues. Got pinned in the first period in his opener at the SBD. Kid from Wyoming took him down, manhandled him from top, and turned him for the fall.

4x NY state champ (thanks a lot, Yianni!).  And World Cadet silver medalist.  Also made the World Junior team in 2018.

I specifically said I’m concerned about his bottom game. His accolades in freestyle don’t matter at all in that regard.

He is amazing. I’ve been touting Vito for years. Being concerned about his bottom game is warranted. He is a freshman and they tend to struggle here, in his first match out of redshirt he had some trouble on bottom, and when he occasionally has lost a folk match over the years it was usually due to bottom. His neutral game is on par with almost anyone at the weight.

Yup. If he and Vito wrestle on Thursday night, this problem is negated

Which occasional folk loss would you be referencing?  He's lost twice since entering his grey shirt year:  once to Cam Kelly (where he was ridden for about a minute before getting the reversal), and once to Chaz Tucker (and we know he can't ride very well).  Before that, he lost to Yianni in 8th grade.  Curious which losses you attribute to bottom issues.

"First match out of redshirt," he beat Jack Davis of PSU and was ridden for :39 before getting the reversal.

It’s crazy how much respect Glory is getting for keeping it respectable with a Midlands version of Lee and how quickly some are forgetting how much of a cold-blooded killer Vito is. Vito has the tools to win it all and his main issue at 133, being physically weaker than his best competition, is likely a non-issue at 125. I think Vito is more likely to make the finals or even fail to AA than to squeeze into the podium at 8.

Vito’s main issue isn’t bottom. Granted, that could be his main issue for any given match against a top specialist like Lee, Glory (I didn’t say he’s not good...), or even Mueller, but I think Cornell fans should be more concerned about being vulnerable to give up points to score his own, which is when he’s at his best. He has more than a little Yanni in him without the Yianni D. And that makes him vulnerable to an athletic iron fortress type of guy like his teammate Tucker.

I think people are skeptical of Vito’s loss to Tucker, although the teammate factor could also be part of the reason for that loss.

I think it’s fair to think Glory isn’t far behind Rivera.  Even if people don’t think he’ll repeat his victory over Lee, he was already the clear #2.  Rivera’s state title in HS was over Glory, as a senior when Glory was a sophomore and Glory was leading in the 3rd.

I'm just not seeing the folkstyle resume that makes Vito a top5 guy.   The results so far haven't been all that impressive, a few close wins over people who aren't going to sniff AA status.  I know he's probably still dealing with the cut, but until he starts winning by more against better guys, I'm keeping him outside the top8.

I'm very hesitant to say that Vito is a Top 5 guy, until there are some quality wins against some of the Top 10.  I looked at his Wrestlestat profile, and... granted, I'd love to have that type of profile at this stage, but... i'm still not seeing that "signature" win.

He hasn't faced many top-tier guys this year.  Last year, he decisively beat Phillippi, who this year (at 133) has beaten Pletcher and Lezak.

Unfortunately, Glory in February is his only high-quality opponent until EIWAs (and one could say through EIWAs).  That will be a great match.

Hard to count 133 wins from last year, as it's clear 125 is a huge cut and affecting his wrestling.  The recent OT win over wrestlestat #93 Punke of Mizzou is the big hold up for me.   I don't see any Lizak or Pletcher wins, are those high school or freestyle?

Then again, one big close win may be a wrestlestat error - it says he beat #115 Guiterrez of Kent State 3-2 at South Beach Individual but then it says he teched him at the same tourney.  Is the 3-2 win a complete error or was that narrow win over someone better at South Beach individual?

If we’re not counting wins at 133 then there’s very little evidence that Vito is competitive with the likes of Lee or now Rivera. You have to count those wins at least a little or what’s the point of talking about Vito at all right now. The idea that he’ll do about as well as Noah Baughman, cut or no cut, I don’t buy it.

That's kind of my point, given his results since the cut he isn't looking like an AA to me.  I just don't see him in the discussion for top3/4 like people are putting him.

Now if that 3-2 Kent State result was over a much better guy then perhaps I'm overreacting too much to the OT win over Punke.
