JohnnyThompsonnum1 102 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 I think there is a somewhat reasonable chance that brothers Micha (of Penn) and Nathan (of Iowa) Burak both place this year at 197. Has that ever happened in NCAA history where two brother or cousins from different schools at the same weight placed?
LoStNuMbEr 320 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 I feel like there were a pair of heavyweight brothers that might have met this criteria many years ago, but it was before I followed wrestling. I think one of them wrestled for ISU
JohnnyThompsonnum1 102 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 I believe you are thinking of the Hynek brothers, Paul (of Northern Iowa) and Trent (of Iowa State) They were both All Americans at Heavyweight but didn't place in the same year. Trent was 2nd in 1998 and 3rd in 2000, whereas Paul was 6th in 2001 and 2002. So close, but not quite.
Matburn155 3 Report post Posted March 13, 2013 That would be great to see them wrestling for 7th/8th, or 5th/6th! It would make for a great storyline for ESPN to talk about before the round they wrestle. Oh yeah, and it would help Iowa out big time if we got Nathan to AA. I think there was another pair of brothers who wrestled each other at NCAAs a while back, but one of them was significantly better then the other and was a multiple AA, while the lesser brother never placed. I want to say one of them wrestled for CMU and was an upper weight

One was the older brother Eric Simaz of CMU at 197 and his younger brother Cam Simaz who was a 4x AA and national champ at 197 for Cornell

Can you imagine having to face your brother in the Round of 12? I can't imagine a situation with more pressure.
