2017 184lbs NCAAs

Recommended Posts

People always talk about 2008's 149lb weight class as being the most stacked ever and rightfully so. But in retrospect now, 2017's 184lb division is not that far off.

Gabe Dean - 2x Champ, 4x AA, 3x finalist

Bo Nickal - likely 3x Champ, likely 4x finalist, almost definite 4x AA

Myles Martin - possible 2x Champ, likely 3x finalist, and 4x AA

Mike Machiavello - 1x Champ up at 197

On top of the NCAA champs, you also have guys like Nate Jackson, Sammy Brooks, Jack Dechow, and Timmy Dudley, all of whom were damn fine wrestlers. It's not 2008's 149 but it's not to be overlooked as a stacked weight.

Funny how Miles Martin was able to put a scare into Bo Nickal that year, but he continually got mauled by Sammy Brooks, who couldn't stop getting pinned by Bo Nickal.

I've thought about this more than once, it's the strangest thing

IMO Myles was still growing into the weight and just couldn't find an answer to Brooks' strength and hard hand fight.  Looked like he was wrestling a brick wall each time they matched up, and Sammy would just stalk forward with a russian or hard collar tie.
