He enrolled at Elmhurst but never wrestled for them. I remember him moving to Illinois for his freshman year of high school with a ton of fanfare. I was at the first tournament of the year he was wrestling in where he faced the previous year's state champ in the finals. With such smooth technique he completely destroyed the state champ. That state champ was Eddie Klimara who would go on to AA for Oklahoma State. Edit: Just found this story on everything. http://www.bloodround.com/blog/2014/11/3/ben-whitford-emerges Edited February 28, 2019 by Relentless125 1 jchapman reacted to this

Whitford dumpstered other state champs and nationally ranked kids all throughout his high school career. Didn't quite go undefeated, but he had wins over the likes of Gulibon, Grey, Hall, Retherford, and a bunch of other guys that were superstars at the time. Some guys he would just absolutely run through. There are a million of his HS matches on flo.

Whitford is the only one to never wrestle division 1. Ashnault is the only one still competing in college. Zain is the only one with 3 consecutive titles. Cox is the only world champ. IMar is the only 2x champ. Tomasello the only 1x champ. 1 1032004 reacted to this

(I actually used to coach at Muskegon, way before he was there though) Didn't Chris Taylor go there before Iowa State?
