Jack Dempsey was widely vilified for dodging the draft during WW 1.  In fact, in 1920, he was tried for draft evasion. but was acquitted by the jury.  He had to practically beg his way into the Coast Guard during WW 2.

One of my grandfathers fought in WW1 (he was a Marine). On the boat over to France he boxed a match against Gene Tunney, who later became a boxing legend and famous rival to Jack Dempsey. Needless to say, Tunney won.

Jerry LEE Lewis - now recovering from a stroke.

One good performance... and a Rock & Roll legend who was poised to take over when Elvis was in the Army - til it came out Jerry Lee married a cousin and the public turned against him.

Amazing how many of the old performances we can see online. A lot like being able to see Wrestling matches we can't get to.
