FreezeWrestling 39 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Just wanted to know where each state stands on how many qualifiers they have based on what state they are from. Just to solve the Prep debate, the qualifier will go to the state where he spent most of his high school career e.i. Ruth and Evans are PA boys even though they went to Blair their senior year. I'll start with Michigan Michigan (15/4.5% of NCAA qualifiers) 125-Christian Cullinan (CMU) Wyandotte, MI 149-Dan Osterman (MSU) St. Johns, MI 149-Donnie Corby (CMU) Croswell, MI 157-Ryan Watts (MSU) Ferndale, MI 157-Matt Frisch (Citadel) Oxford, MI 165-Josh Houldsworth (Columbia) Holly, MI 165-Taylor Massa (Michigan) St. Johns, MI 165-Paul Hancock (Army) Dearborn, MI 174-Phil Joseph (EMU) Lapeer, MI 174-Dan Yates (Michigan) Hesperia, MI 184-John Rizgallah (MSU) Allegan, MI 184-Ben Bennett (CMU) Rockford, MI 197-Nick Whitenburg (EMU) Temperance, MI 285-Mike McClure (MSU) Holland, MI 285-Jarod Trice (CMU) Highland Park, MI

I'm serious-not trying to be a d head. California has 3 in the entire state. How sad is that? off the top of my head 1 edinboro 2 clarion 3 pitt 4 psu 5 bloom 6 f&m 7 lock haven 8 lehigh 9 penn 10 drexel 11 bucknell millersville and east stroudsburg recently dropped to DII, duquesne dropped their program recently and slippery rock not long before that. not sure where you are going with this when the guys are top 12 in the country. i agree that it affects qualifiers a little, but hard to imagine these kids wouldnt be in a line-up somewhere else if they didnt have as many opps in pa. Ryan 2 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 I have to agree somewhat. Staying close to home has it's advantages though. Unfortunately, most of the top CA kids leave the state, and far away at that. It's sad for wrestling in general that the biggest state in the country has 3 D1 schools, and Stanford ain't that easy to get into. I just see D1 wrestling dwindling and dwindling and it's sad for our sport.
jstock 125 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Please understand - coaches will fill their roster with the best talent available. Coaches fight to keep their jobs, they are not part of charitable organizations. The coaches at PA schools do not get extra bonus points for recruiting a home state kid over an out of state kid. Do you think Flynn at Edinboro would pass on Dake if he had a shot at him in favor of less talented PA kid at that for that roster spot ? All college coaches get the best kids they can from whatever State they can to make their team better.
Bucksman 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Someone told me PA with 47 based on finishing high school. I am presuming that takes Ruth and Evans to the Blair column. No matter how you slice it Huntley is not a PA kid - he went to Blair for his senior (maybe junior) year and Colonial Forge (as I recall) for the couple years before that. Ohio at 32 is CORRECT. It was 27 through the qualifiers and the five wild card's today.

NJWC 305 Report post Posted March 14, 2013 Having that many in state schools absolutely helps in getting the numbers up. In state tuition is one huge factor, plus the proximity to home. Most kids aren't getting much money, so the financial aspect is huge.

There's no in-state tuition for private schools is there? So it's only an issue for state/public schools.
