OBXWrestler 108 Report post Posted March 27, 2019 Gable mentioned in his post NCAAs video that he is wrestling next year but possibly doing the Kyle Snyder type schedule. I wonder if other guys will consider doing the same deal.
Boompa 208 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 If I recall correctly, Snyder didn't change or shorten his NCAA seasons until after he won a gold on the senior level. Gable is putting the cart before the horse here.
OBXWrestler 108 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 You’re correct but it is an alternative to the standard Olympic Redshirt If they still want to complete at NCAAs but be ready for the Trials.
Underhook 45 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 Steveson might not have senior level accolades (yet), but he is a junior world champ, which is no small achievement on the international circuit. I don’t see really any flaws with him and Minnesota taking this approach, seems like a “best of both worlds” for both sides. Gable gets to prioritize his freestyle chops in prep for 2020, Minnesota still gets big points at ncaa’s/big tens/ the Iowa/psu/other marquee dual. de4856 379 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 Well if Gable can handle the extra travel and everything else that goes with it, I believe it will help him immensely.
scribe 1,846 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 I want GS to succeed, but Kyle Snyder is a unique athlete. It literally made sense for Snyder to contest at worlds and get through his ncaa eligibility. Steveson feels more like he wants to associate with the gimmick of the schedule
CA_Wrestler 336 Report post Posted March 28, 2019 Not everybody can do what Snyder did because Snyder is Snyder. There's a reason why we haven't see many athletes do what Snyder(I'll throw J'Den in there as well from recent athletes) did while still in college. Steveson is really good right now and if he can handle all of that travel/studies/NCAA wrestling matches, then I don't see why not. The WTT/OTT is coming around sooner than later, so I'm sure we'll see him push to get more experience to try and get that spot from Gwiz.
