LCpl Schmuckatelli 33 Report post Posted April 6, 2019 I hope it’s competitive but I think Askren gets his ass kicked. And I’m a big fan of Askren.
dmm53 501 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 Ben Askren Retweeted Ben Askren and Jordan Burroughs have verbally agreed to wrestle at Beat the Streets NYC on May 6 at MSG. Match would be at 79kg and will be to support https://www.btsny.org/ . They are hoping it will be signed next week. They’ve never competed against each other. treep2000 974 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 Askren is not at peak of wrestling game. JB is training to be at peak. JB will win, but Askren will go funkadelic enough to make it worth watching.
Katie 807 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 This is a great way to draw attention to freestyle. ESPN's Ariel Helwani already tweeted about this match.
Housebuye 2,231 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 At first glance Burroughs should dominate him then I realize it is Askren and he tends to do well in matches he isn’t supposed to win, no matter the sport. Burroughs should kill him but man who knows. I hope Ben at least gets a takedown or turn
tbert 561 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 Be good fundraising for show only. Askren is and never was a contender in world class freestyle. Anything less than total dominance should be embarrassing to Burros.

It’s very kind of Askren to use his celebrity this way. 6 CaliWrestler, tbert, GranbyTroll and 3 others reacted to this

His last match Askren got whooped by Clayton Foster so I don’t expect it to be competitive but kudos to Ben for manning up and doing it. 3 Housebuye, Peso and tbert reacted to this
Crotalus 464 Report post Posted April 7, 2019 I think on his old podcast Askren talked about wrestling with Burroughs several years ago in practice and getting pretty well dominated. I think they will put on a show though and Burroughs will let the match get in to some of those fun, crazy scrambles. 2 CaliWrestler and TheRealOne9050 reacted to this

It’s going to be a fun match and it’s going to get freestyle some attention. We should be thanking Askren. 4 CaliWrestler, Peso, Housebuye and 1 other reacted to this
PRyan2012 344 Report post Posted April 8, 2019 Askren will be bigger. That is his only advantage. 1 Peso reacted to this

Perry 1,258 Report post Posted April 8, 2019 This is Askren giving back to wrestling while keeping his name and brand out there. He won't win but it's still a fun match up that should help draw attention to the event.

sidakova4991 68 Report post Posted April 9, 2019 I will be surprised were Burroughs not to get a tech fall or at least win by 7-0. Burroughs is too athletic and quick for Askren.
DuckFor2 187 Report post Posted April 10, 2019 it's official. The two will wrestle at 79kg in the headlining bout of the event. I'm thinking the size difference will keep this one close, as well as Askren's ability to defend. Thinking a 2 point match Burroughs. 1 Nicky_Pipes reacted to this
Witherman 368 Report post Posted April 10, 2019 i posted this on the hawk forum: love love love askren - but if burroughs wrestles 100% this isn't even close in freestyle. now - make it folks with no danger rule we have a little different match - but burroughs still takes it with ease. personally, i think JB takes it easy to not create an embarrassment. i mean come on, ESPN posted about this match. JB isn't going to annihilate the quickest rising star in the UFC that is a HUGE advocate for the sport.

Just a cool spectacle, with BTS (and wrestling in general) coming out the winner. Edited April 10, 2019 by Katie 1 boconnell reacted to this

I am saying losing to Foster was not a bad loss for Askren. I am not sure Burroughs would of beat Foster back then either. He was wrestling very good and was big strong for his weight class.
