PRyan2012 343 Report post Posted June 12, 2019 Askren on his podcast yesterday advised Nickal should wrestle U23. He can challenge Max dean for the spot at 189? 1 DocBZ reacted to this
TBar1977 3,757 Report post Posted June 12, 2019 Is this allowed? Is that even part of the rules?
ugarte 321 Report post Posted June 12, 2019 yes. that's why they didn't confirm all U23 winners - eligible wrestlers who lose at Final X can challenge the U23 winners. Yianni, Fix and Deakin are all potential challengers too (and I may be leaving someone out). 1 leshismore reacted to this

The college guys - seems to me that year round wrestling is path to burnout. They need some break before the grinding NCAA season. Unless they make the big boys world team I'd say take a break. NJDan 564 Report post Posted June 12, 2019 A lot of college guys don't even want to accept a spot at u23s due to it conflicting with college classes and practice. But maybe Nickal will do it just so Penn State can get payback for Dake beating Taylor and (maybe) Yianni beating Retherford.
nhs67 892 Report post Posted June 12, 2019 I imagine the rule must be for whatever weight they wrestled Final X at... Otherwise we could legit have Deakin(70) and Nickal(92) legit challenge Dean(86), right?

That's part of the reason I'm not upset that Spencer Lee has put his FS career on hiatus. The guy wrestled a full season in the toughest conference in the country, he needs a break. I missed the big shot he scored against Cox. I agree he is Mr. Excitement (unless you are being totally sarcastic.) Sure wish he was at a reasonable weight class and representing the U.S. on the world team. Edited June 13, 2019 by Full Nelson
hammerlockthree 1,957 Report post Posted June 13, 2019 I was being sarcastic, probably uncalled for. I should have just said nickel is too full of himself and hope he doesn't beat me up. 5 wrestlingphish, silvermedal, spladle08 and 2 others reacted to this
de4856 359 Report post Posted June 13, 2019 Well if it's true that Bo can challenge Dean for the spot, I would love to see it. I would also say that after watching Bo vs J'den last weekend at Final X, I am convinced that Bo should be at 86, and not at 92. Bo just did not have the horsepower to move J'den when he needed to. Ogalthorpe Haywood 313 Report post Posted June 13, 2019 I’m thinking if Bo does take the wrestle off he will go 92, if he wanted a spot at 86 he would’ve went 86 for seniors. Where he had more than a reasonable shot at making the team.

steamboat_charlie v2 939 Report post Posted June 13, 2019 I agree, he should go, this is hardly a tournament that's below him. Also 92kg had a pretty strong field at U23 Euro's, and I expect a lot of those guys will show up to World's too.

Mach & co. thought you just had to be 23 during the actual tournament, which he would have been.
