olddirty 272 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 Do Athletic Directors not know how to do basic google searches? Almost everything this guy has listed as an accomplishment seems to be totally fake. Is my memory that bad or was this guy really winning US open 6x and placing at the world championships 2x? I dont seem to remember him at all. The story from the SID claims he was the head coach of ISU "club" during Kevin Jackson's tenure there. Dude is blowing some serious smoke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Wesley_(wrestler) https://intermatwrestle.com/articles/22109?fbclid=IwAR3B-75v97wB8c0ha3V_MDBmuIRm6KJs52R8pJ14d5VwYXhU90An1QnZm08
justafan 123 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 He was wrestling in the veteran division thats why you don't remember him. After reading up on him imagine he will be a good coach for Northwest Tech
1032004 812 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 That is a very detailed Wikipedia profile. Not sure why someone would make up a 7th place finish at the Pat Shaw invitational in Guatemala, but you never know. It does look like he was actually the club coach at ISU, which of course is totally separate from the NCAA team (although his son might’ve been on the actual roster for a couple years) - http://www.iowastatedaily.com/sports/iowa-state-wrestling-club-finishes-season-on-strong-note-at/article_702d955a-195c-11e7-9f2a-dfd17018fc62.html But apparently he also coached a HS team in California during the same time he was coaching the club team at ISU? - https://www.kcra.com/article/high-school-coach-rebuilds-wrestling-program-leads-team-to-success/8974746 BTW, looks like Northwest Tech (which I’d never heard of before this post) is in the NJCAA anyway, so it’s not like he got a high profile job. 1032004 812 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 Small world though...apparently the previous coach at Northwest Tech is now the coach at North Idaho college - where the longtime coach was fired and is claiming the school violated the ADA among other things. https://www.cdapress.com/sports/20190604/nic_hires_sebaaly_as_wrestling_coach
HokieHWT 587 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 I think the 6x golds in the 90s are team medals from Sunkist Kids. He didn’t actually win gold himself.

PSUSMC 151 Report post Posted July 8, 2019 His son wrestled at ISU for a couple of/few years; 2 time CA State qualifier out of the Sacramento area. He may have relocated to Ames during that time - which could be why he was coaching the club team?

Until recently, smoke show was when a dude would burnout his tires and create a "smoke show", which looked very close to this guys resume. A lot of smoke being blown with these half truths. Fishbane 118 Report post Posted July 9, 2019 Anyone nominate that page for deletion yet? I reckon he fails criteria b. "Credible claim of significance" is a two-part test: credible and significant. A good mental test is to consider each part discretely: a) is this reasonably plausible? b) assuming this were true, would this (or something that "this" might plausibly imply) cause a person to be notable? Or, in line with point 6 above, does it give plausible indications that research might well discover notability?
Plasmodium 1,576 Report post Posted July 9, 2019 Northwest Tech is interesting because they always have a ton of Mongolian wrestlers for some reason. They really scrap, but are of course just learning folkstyle at what the folks in Goodland like to call the "Harvard of Sherman County"
