Bronco 231 Report post Posted July 14, 2019 The only projected heavyweight mentioned in the Cal Poly 2019 recruiting press release from last May was Victor Jaquez of Bellarmine Prep. And Jaquez competed at the 2019 California State tournament at 220 lbs but did not place. He went 3-2 at the 2019 CA State tournament and lost his last match by Default. He won his first two matches and then got pinned by the guy who ended up in 8th place at 285 lbs at the 2019 CA State tournament, i.e., Kwabena Watson of Edison H.S. So it would make sense that Cal Poly would look to add another heavyweight.
potentiallydangerous 412 Report post Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) Victor Jaquez placed 5th at state in 2017 & 3rd in 2018, was ranked #1 most of the '18-'19 season but I think had a football injury that was aggravated at the 2019 state wrestling tournament or he might have placed again. That's not to dispute your conclusion about Cal Poly wanting another option. Edited July 14, 2019 by potentiallydangerous Clarify
