Dake-Dieringer live thread

Once he was up 4-0, I was hoping Dake would start opening up.

In freestyle why in the world would you open up when you're up 4-0?  When you open up you expose yourself some too, and one 4 pointer and Ringer wins.  He did exactly what he should have up 4-0 in a do or die series.

Booooring!  Forgive my ambivilence but this year I just don't care if he medals or not.

Yeah he was real boring vs the Russian last year. Dake was certainly more exciting in those matches than dieringer.

No, don’t know why flo keeps saying that but our chances aren’t bad.

With Gadhzi injured, no one at 79 has even come close to beating Dake (or Dieringer, for that matter). I'd never call anything a lock, but Dake will probably be the biggest favorite, betting or otherwise, at Worlds.  It's a weak weight made even weaker with Gadhzi's injury, and Dake's really good.

Can we give a shout out to the crowd?  Matches weren’t exciting but they turned out. Nice job by flo filling the place.

Flo selected the place. Flo didn't fill the place. Plus it's the small gymnasium not even the big one lol.

Dake is just a really complete wrestler. Incredible strength and flexibility. Can easily tech guys that aren’t the absolute best. But then his strategy and execution is absolutely top notch in the big matches. This match reminded me of the Dake/Taylor college matchups. So much excitement/hype and then within moments of it starting you can tell Dake’s going to win.

Very odd, but Ringer too one shot in 12 minutes-- at the end of the first period in Match 1-- and Dake scored on that.

tought to shoot against someone backing up faster than you are going forward

Name of the game is to score more points than your opponent.  There are two primary ways to do that.  One is to score and Dake is not always great at that.  The other is to not let the other guy score and Dake is an all-time great at that.  Hopefully he brings home gold.

This says it all. "Name of the game is to score more points." Yes, Dake backs up a lot. But he's world class at analyzing his opponent beforehand, figuring out a winning strategy, then executing that strategy.

I can't think of anybody who can beat Dake at 79 right now, even Nabiev (our representative at 79) isn't that great and Dake should run over him.

Must be that Cornell superior education at all levels.

To stifle Dieringer's offense to that level, where Dieringer didn't even seem to have any idea how to adapt to create opportunities to score on Dake for most of both matches, it does seem that Dake/Cornell significantly out-strategized Ringer and his team, or at least had a schematic edge today at least. Which after the classless behavior of Koll, calling referee's hungover and faulting them for taking naps between sessions many hours before they were due to officiate a match, it pains me to say that they out-strategized anyone - but today, at least, Dake and his team seemed to have a schematic edge.

It's not a schematic edge but a much deeper toolbox.  Dake has won matches pretty much every conceivable way you can.  Dieringer wins 1 way or he doesn't.

You can't scheme what you don't have.

dakes so insanely good

dake being dake is a highlight on burroughs resume. there is levels to this, dake > taylor/ringer         burroughs >dake

Bold to say Taylor and Ringer are on the same level.

Ringer should be our 86 rep this year. We would medal that way.

No confusion here.  It was one or other.

gotcha, you knew the correct scoring as 1 Dake when it happened in real time.

Except in freestyle it isnt always "one or the other" as we have seen both wrestlers can score off one sequence ... the ref held up four for Dieringer and Pyles & Bader didnt know if it would be 4-0, 4-2, or 2-0 and then they ruled 1 for Dake because he stepped out before the throw.
