Bronco 231 Report post Posted August 18, 2019 https://gostanford.com/roster.aspx?path=wrestling&roster=1731&sort=weight First thing I noticed on the newly updated roster is that Dalton Young, who has been projected to be the starter for Stanford this season at 133 lbs., is listed at 141 lbs. And there are only two Stanford wrestlers listed at 133 lbs. That being Anthony Le (True Junior) who has a career record at Stanford of 10-17 in the last two seasons and Luciano Arroyo (True Freshman) According to this newly updated Stanford wrestling team roster the Stanford wrestling team for the 2020 season will be: 125 lbs Gabriel Townsell - 4th year Senior - 19-12 last season at 125 lbs - Place 3rd at 2019 PAC 12 tournament - Three time NCAA qualifier Logan Ashton - True Freshman - 2019 NHSCA Senior national champion - 2 time Georgia H.S. Bronco 231 Report post Posted August 18, 2019 Also it appears that two Stanford underclassmen wrestlers who were on the 2018-2019 roster are not on the 2019-2020 roster. Namely Brandon Dallavia who was listed as a RS Sophomore last season at 165 lbs. Dallavia went 7-2 last season for Stanford at 165 & 174 lbs. (He was 5-0 at 174 lbs & 2-2 at 165 lbs) and Austin Flores (184 lbs) who was listed incorrectly on the 2019 Stanford team roster as a Senior. He was, in fact a RS Junior last season. Flores was 6-5 last season at 184 lbs for Stanford. I had Dallavia penciled in as the likely starter for the upcoming season at 174 lbs. Have to wonder why he's no longer on their roster. nhs67 1,952 Report post Posted August 18, 2019 There are a slew of 141lbers on that roster. That is the weight class that is easiest to 'assume' the starter as of now in Woods. I imagine we'll see a 141lber or two make the decent.

Dalton Young, however, was the most recent Stanford wrestler listed at 141 lbs on the updated roster who has competed at 133 lbs. Young last competed at 133 lbs at the 2019 Southern Scuffle on January 1st. The only other Stanford 141 lb'er who has competed at 133 lbs (in college) is Brandon Kier and he last competed at 133 lbs back in November of 2017. True Freshman Fabian Santillan competed at 138 lbs as a Senior in H.S. And his weight class has gone from 113 lbs in 2015-2016, 120 lbs in 2016-2017, 126 lbs in 2017-2018 to 138 (12 lbs increase) in 2018-2019. P.S. 141 and 157 both have a slew of guys at those two weight classes for Stanford (according to their updated roster). Housebuye 2,417 Report post Posted August 19, 2019 Good info. Stanford is going to be very good this year. Best they have been in years. Their best weights may end up being 141 and 165 - 141 is extremely light this year and 165, while still solid, is far weaker than any time in the last 4 years. I think Stanford can legitimately get 4 AAs. If I had to guess I’d say 2, but 4 is reasonable if all goes well (maybe 1 or 2 upsets)

Idaho 1,317 Report post Posted August 19, 2019 Stanford will be very good this year. Woods I the starter the next 4. years barring injury. I am guessing that Dalton Young had a hard time making 133 last year, which was the reason for the move back up. If he could make 133 it would make their lineup tougher. With that many 141lbers on the roster and moving up not a great option either (VDM and Abas), I wonder who will try to move down. Tough lineup. If Woods, Griffith and Traxler get on the podium and others can score some points, there may be two PAC12 teams in the top 15 or higher.
DrStrange 89 Report post Posted August 19, 2019 Based on their recent history, I’d be willing to bet that a few of those projected starters won’t even be on the team this year.

I’ve been saying Townsell will AA at some point since his freshman year. It’s time. The weight is still stacked though. He may end up being seeded 15-20. Woods and Griffith I think can both AA. 141 is depleted. Griffith is just that good even with 165 having depth. Traxler I think will be seeded to AA, but nobody outside of Kollin Moore is a lock to AA given what we have. Traxler could but a R16 finish wouldn’t be shocking. I think 2-4 AAs is reasonable. That would prob mean too 20-8 or so. With a great performance they could end up top

Bronco 231 Report post Posted August 20, 2019 It will be interesting to see who ends up being Stanford's starter at 133 lbs this season. Personally I think it will end up being either Dalton Young or Brandon Kier . This is how I see Stanford's lineup for 2019-2020 (just my opinion as of this moment in time): 125 lbs - Gabe Townsell - 4th year Senior - 3 time NCAA qualifier 133 lbs - Dalton Young - RS Sophomore OR Brandon Kier - 4th year Senior 141 lbs - Real Woods - RS Freshman - 22-1 last season at 141 lbs while being redshirted 149 lbs - Require van der Merwe - RS Junior - 2019 PAC 12 champ at 149 lbs - 2019 NCAA qualifier 157 lbs - Dominick Mandarino - True Junior OR Tyler Eischens - RS Freshman 165 lbs - Shane Griffith - RS Freshman - 25-2 last season at 165 lbs while being redshirted 174 lbs - Jared Hill - RS Junior - Placed third at 165 pounds at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships OR Foster Karmon - RS Sophomore 184 lbs - Judah Duhm - True Junior - 2019 Runner-up at 184 pounds at the Pac-12 Championships 197 lbs - Nathan Traxler - RS Junior - 2019 PAC 12 champ at 197 lbs - 2 time NCAA qualifier (Round of 12 in 2019) 285 lbs - Hadyn Maley - RS Sophomore - 2019 Runner-up at the Pac-12 Championships - 2019 NCAA qualifier I think this lineup for Stanford for 2019-2020 would be VERY competitive with Arizona State's lineup and a few months ago I thought ASU would have to be favored to win the PAC 12 in 2020. Now I think this lineup for Stanford would beat ASU and allow Stanford to repeat as PAC 12 champs.

Stanford could win it, but they won’t outplace ASU at NCAAs. Still very impressive. Zahid should not equal Neville, you know? Seems a little silly to have PAC 12s with so few teams. Not sure how that’s not hacking it. This is his 3rd year back at Stanford. Do you think Borrelli landed these last two good recruiting classes by himself and it’s just coincidence that it coincides with Tirapelle coming back? It won't be decided for several more months what Arizona State's lineup will be for 2019-2020 BUT I don't think the above will be their lineup. It's really difficult to say what it will be at this point as there are a number of things that just haven't been determined yet. BUT I think Courtney's a lock at 125 lbs and Josh Kramer and Cory Crooks will be the starters at 133 & 141 lbs. Also I think there is a possibility that Josh Shields could drop back down to 157 lbs (where he was until this past season) and that would give ASU Shields at 157 lbs, A. V at 165 lbs and Z. V. at 174 lbs, Norfleet at 184 lbs and Jacob Good at 197 lbs. IF Shields did, in fact, return to 157 lbs, I think he would have to be considered the favorite to win the 2020 NCAA championship at that weight as he's defeated all of the top returners at that weight class in the past. This isn't true at all. He beat Hidlay when Hidlay was a true freshman 3 years ago, but Hidlay jumped levels the next year and had an objectively better season, significantly out placing Shields at NCAA's. Kaleb Young also teched Shields 10-0 at Universities last summer as well. He certainly wouldn't be the favorite heading into the year, though he will probably be in contention to place high. Shields coming down to 157 also screws up their lineup at 149. Either Teemer or Maruca would be on the bench. I doubt we see him come down. He was outplaced significantly by Hidlay in 2018 and was lit up by Kaleb Young in freestyle last summer. He had a shot to beat Hidlay in 2018 as the 4 seed, but was beaten by the 13 seed Zilverburg in Round 2. Shields is great and will be in finals contention if he drops (which I'd be surprised to see because it doesn't make much sense for their lineup), but Hidlay is the undisputed favorite at 157 heading into this year. He has the best body of work and is the top returning placer. It's a no-brainer, which means even you should be able to figure it out. Absolutely shaking rn that I may be added to your ignore list.
