TBar1977 3,299 Report post Posted October 5 (edited) 132 lbs Freestyle 4 man bracket Jesse Mendez 8 Ryan Jack 8. Mendez wins on criteria. Mendez got a last second exposure to win it. Shayne Van Ness 16 Dom Serrano 6. Serrano led 6-2 but Van Ness was unstoppable after that. Too quick and timed up Serrano perfectly for a bunch of go behinds. Van Ness wrestles Mendez later on. 120 lbs Folkstyle Jesse Ybarra (Iowa recruit) 3 Jakason Burks (Okie State) 1. Ybarra scored with 10 seconds remaining. 113 lbs Folkstyle Richard Figueroa 8 Stevo Poulin 1. Figs looked bigger to me as he jumps out to a 4-0 lead on 1 TD and 2 backpoints. 4-1 after the ESC. Figs gets a reversal and then rides Poulin hard in period 2. Period 3 they start on their feet, Figs gets one more TD and one more hard ride to win 8-1. Dominating performance. 145 lbs Folkstyle Victor Voinovich (OH) win by FALL over Jesse Vasquez (CA). Vasquez had 2 first period TD's. Voinovich put a couple power halfs on Vasquez that reminded of Logan Steiber. Then the FALL. That kid is a beast on top. 55 Kg Freestyle Anthony Echemendia (ISU via Cuba) 10 Josh Saunders (Cornell? Mizzou?) 0. Not close. Echemendia is a beast. Total domination. 152 lbs Folkstyle Sonny Santiago (CA) 5 Travis Mastrogiovanni (Blair, Oklahoma State) 3. Two TD's to none, but Mastrogiovanni had a TD that got wiped out when Santiago's leg hit the basketball court (he was off the mat). Close match, Santiago was just better. Adeline Gray talks about her Gold Medal run. USA! 160 lbs Freestyle Keegan O'Toole (WI) 12 Paddy Gallagher (OH) 1. Gallagher looks real solid physically, but O'Toole got him in some uncomfortable scrambles and won both situations. He also scored 4 turns on a trapped arm gut. Very entertaining to watch. O'Toole is funky as hell. 126 lbs Freestyle Robert Howard (NJ/PSU) 4 Trevor Mastrogiovanni (NJ/Ok St?) 2. These guys have wrestled 9 times before, so familiarity will play a role here. Howard got an inside single and a turn, then Mastro got a push out. 4-1 after 1 period. Mastro gets 1 more push out, but he ends up on the wrong end of a 4-2 score. 138 lbs Folkstyle Beau Bartlett (Wyoming SEM/PSU) 6 Ryan Sokol (Minn./ TBD) 3. Bartlett got to Sokol's leg in period 1 and had it up in the air and tried to sweep the trail foot and Sokol cartwheeled out of it but Bartlett sprung back into an outside single / go behind. Bartlett got a very sweet reversal in period 2. Sokol got an ESC. Bartlett got a snap to a go behind in period 3 and it ended 6-3. Sokol was a gamer but Bartlett is too savvy right now. Pat Downey vs. BJJ / Grappling guy Nick Rodriguez. Rodriguez has some guts taking this match, but while he's bigger than Downey he is definitely not skilled at the level Downey is. 12-0 Downey. Entertaining, if not the highest level of wrestling. 170 lbs Folkstyle Patrick Kennedy (Minn./Iowa) 5 Alex Facundo (MI) 2. Kennedy won 2 TD's to None (and nearly 2 others) . Facundo could not get past Kennedy's head and hands defense. Kennedy did get thru Facundo's defense. Kennedy was the better wrestler. 132 lbs Freestyle 4 man bracket final Shayne Van Ness 10 Jesse Mendez 9. Mendez got a TD and two guts, then Van Ness got a pair of TD's on his own. One go behind and one duck under. 6-4 after 1 period. Period 2. Uh oh, double overs for Ness, double unders for Mendez. They throw and its 2 for Mendez. Hand fighting, Mendez tries to elude and Van Ness runs him down for 2. Now another TD for Van Ness, and a reversal for Mendez. 9-8 Mendez now. Van Ness escapes and then while hand fighting hips into Mendez and then runs for an outside single. 10-9 Van Ness. It ends that way. Van Ness is the new #1 at 126. Housebuye 1,809 Report post Posted October 5 Takeaways so far: Ybarra is better than I thought. Excited to see how he develops. Jack is going to be a multiple time AA. His offense is excellent and his top game will be world class once he gets in the nc state room. 1 Nicky_Pipes reacted to this

Mat awareness. 2 DanGerMan and Housebuye reacted to this

I'm on the other end with Ybarra, I didn't think he looked that impressive but did have a noticeably better gas tank. Fig is the real deal. Not sure I have ever seen takedowns off of shots like that. Wow. 1 Housebuye reacted to this

You could tell he was a little green in freestyle but he did look decent. Thought that could have been a 2 and 2 position at the very end. Would have been better off stalling it out or giving up 1 like you said, though

FLO and Beat the Streets don't seem to understand that they need more room for safety beyond just the mat. Pretty laughable they didn't think about (or maybe they just don't care) something so obvious. This isn't nearly as bad as the beat the streets stage from a safety standpoint but should have still been addressed. 2 DanGerMan and jon reacted to this
