Jimmy Cinnabon 163 Report post Posted October 18 (edited) Picking a currently rostered wrestler as the face of the major programs: For Iowa it is easy -- Mr. Spencer Lee For Minnesota it is Gable Steveson For Ohio State it is Kollin Moore. For Rutgers it is Nick Suriano. For OK St it is Daton Fix. For Mizzou it is Jaydin Eireman. For Michigan it is Alec Pantaleo. For Wisconsin it is Evan Wick. For Az State it is Zahid Valencia. For Cornell it is Yianni D. Did I get any of these wrong? Who is it for Penn State? Mark Hall? Edited October 18 by Jimmy Cinnabon
witwhiz 24 Report post Posted October 18 I think Pantaleo's gone.
steamboat_charlie v2 724 Report post Posted October 18 Pantaleo graduated, so that one would be wrong. Otherwise no objections based on your criteria. I don't think it's a bad topic--I do think it would be more interesting if you don't limit it to the active roster. e.g. David Taylor being the face of Penn State. What you're essentially doing right now is just naming the best wrestler on every roster.

Jimmy Cinnabon 163 Report post Posted October 18 Burroughs for NEB. Askren for Mizzou. Is Metcalf still it for Iowa?
steamboat_charlie v2 724 Report post Posted October 18 Cornell is interesting. It's still Dake in my eyes, he's the golden child (and b2b world champ). But Yianni is gaining on him quickly--being active on the roster helps. Agree on Nebraska, definitely Burroughs. Mizzou is also interesting. It's either Askren or Cox but both have left the program. Eierman is good but not transcendent, so really I would say that mantle is up for grabs right now. Iowa... if we're excluding Dan Gable I think Spencer Lee qualifies. He's not as big as Metcalf was when Metcalf was active but a lot of time has passed.
KTG119 816 Report post Posted October 18 given Metcalf is an assistant coach at ISU I have a hard time thinking of him as the face of Iowa wrestling. 1 JHRoseWrestling reacted to this

Sort of unfair to include coaches in the conversation for collegiate sports. Otherwise every major coach pretty much holds that title.
TBar1977 3,316 Report post Posted October 18 If limited to a rostered wrestler, then Hall, Cassar, Rasheed and Cenzo are the faces of the program roster wise.

Plus aren’t some of these guys not “on the roster” due to ORS? I think all-time or even past 10 years or whatever would be a more interesting discussion. potentiallydangerous 126 Report post Posted October 19 (edited) You need to match a wrestler to the personality of the program. Penn State is aristocracy, who is the most self assured, almost arrogant wrestler? I would have said Vincenzo Joseph except he didn't win the championship this year. Iowa has a lot of resentment and a chip on the shoulder, that would be Austin Desanto. Evan Wick is a work in progress, that does match Wisconsin. For Rutgers you could pick just about any of the Jersey boys. Et cetera. Edited October 19 by potentiallydangerous

aknipp 93 Report post Posted October 19 Limited to current wrestlers, Nebraska would be Taylor Venz though a very good argument for CJ Red as well. But as said before the face is NU wrestling is JB
